A Political Thread pt. 2

It's the strangest thing. Israelis/Zionists are apparently the most evil people on the planet. They deliberately target children and aid workers, they are imperial colonialists with a racist ideology, they operate concentration camps and are currently conducting a genocide. Why would you not support these people to be killed if they showed no intention of stopping what they are doing?
To be fair, people just get hysterical about things they dont really understand, but have been told by their phones which way to think. a bit like a similar orange related subject...

Seriously though, there just seems to be this weird 'big country bad' mentality in the west, the US is evil in general, Russia bad, Isreal bad etc.. theres a lack of complex discussion.

Like in this specific case, a guy who is deluded and has fully drunk the coolade (have I used that right?) Is saying silly things for attention and kudos. Everyone agrees Isreal didnt start this specific conflict, everyone agrees IDF are doing bad things, the only disagreement is to the degree of bad things IDF is doing.

The idea Ethnic cleansing is happening is silly, and the like accusations, but also the idea they are totally justified in some of their war crime actions, so where on the scale does proactively defending your country against an external threat lean l too far?

I don’t think it’s big country bad I think it’s just an anti west feeling in general. It’s always been there to be fair but normally just on the fringes of the left but now it’s more common place amongst right leaning isolationists as well.

I genuinely think its as simple as big country bad, once the algorithm has you you are lost to it!

Your right though, west hate was fringe, but now its becoming mainstream, thousands of middle class white women who spend hundreds if not thousands of pounds for a glasto ticket to chant about helping poor people in war environments, and killing soldiers lol hahahaha

Bob Vylans statement afterwards were pretty much boiler plate, UK os silent and complicit with genocide, the IDF must be dismantled.

For me, the request to dismantle the IDF is the calling for Isreal to not exist, because that's the outcome of that.

Are you really REALLY sure it's not just that people think that genocide (or attempted genocide) is a bad thing?
It just seems such an obvious answer
He doesn't agree its a genocide though, you keep using that as your standard, butnits not the agreed standard.

@welshagrees genocide is a bad thing, everyone does, where are the people who are pro genocide?

They've apparently been committing genocide for decades. It's the most unsuccessful genocide in history it would seem. You could argue the framing of genocide is in itself suspect (not saying anyone on here are malicious)

It took the Hutu's about 100 days to kill 1 million Tutsis. It took Pol Pot about 4 years to work his was through killing 2 million people and it took Hitler and co about 4 years or so to massacre 6 million Jews. Those are genocides but I guess the term can mean anything these days.

I mean, the best way i could describe it, would be If I wanted to genocide a group of people, the IDFs record puts them down the list of calls I make to contract tbh.

But seriously, I dont think the UNs definition of genocide helps, its pretty vague and all encompassing, a bit like the UK hate crime laws.

To kill, or mentally harm in whole or in part, a group, during war or peace time, or displacement or mentally harm a group, deny childbirth or move children from one group to another... talk about covering all bases.

Realistically, the IDF are complying with international law on the main, or by consulting with a team of lawyers before actions are trying to, they have clearly committed war crimes, whether these are any more or are happening at a higher rate than most wars I'm not sure anyone knows, but it should also be caveated that they do face an enemy that wants them extinct, who have provoked them, and set the terms of the war pre war by using civilian infrastructure as shields.

By Hamas own words, they wanted to poke the bear and encourage an Islamic army to destroy Isreal.

It is hard to feel sorry for Hamas, but its easy to feel for Palestinians who are the victims of this war (I have seen a lot of footage of Palestinaisn cheering rockets, and Isreali deaths etc) but at the same time I recognise the IDF are in a no win situation.

That's a pretty pathetic thing to say. To joke about what's happening in Gaza is a new low.
