A Political Thread pt. 2

The rules around election/referenda campaigning also need overhauling. Its a lying and disinformation free for all at the moment.

It's obviously difficult to fact check everything real time but perhaps political parties should be independently reviewed every year and given a score out of ten. Its not perfect but if anything reduces lies and disinformation it's an improvement.
All that happens then is any groups who make a point of constantly lying just accuse the fact checkers of bias, as happened in the USA.

Welcome to the annual 11th of July madness in Northern Ireland.

There are concerns that the power supply to Belfast City and the Royal Victoria Hospitals would be put at risk because it lies near an electricity substation. There are separate concerns about the presence of asbestos at the site.

Makes sense

If only it came with complimentary EU membership.

With doubts over America's commitment to NATO thanks to TACO it absolutely makes sense for Europe to transition to a new defence model. I would envisage UK, France, Germany, Poland, Ukraine and Finland to play leading roles and acting as the main muscle in Europe with smaller countries with less capability paying for protection.

Not Germany they talk a good game but never deliver. Sweden and the Baltics would be better

Sweden don't like conflict and would rather pay to be defended. The Finns on the other hand love a rumble.

If Germany got their act together and walked the talk their military could be formidable. Just need to make sure they don't elect any right wing nutters,

Disagree with that. Sweden like Finland (but not Ireland or Austria) have done neutrality right and have a very capable military and Military industrial complex. Their armoured vehicles and aircraft have sold in larger numbers than anything the UK has managed.

Germany make some good gear but are incapable of moving from this stupid post ww2 trade is always more important than defence mentality. A few years ago when the EU was looking at closer military relations with the UK there were German MEPs still moaning that nothing will be done while fishery policies with the UK remain unresolved. The Germans live on another planet. Fortunately for them they have the Poles between them and Russia

They remain a complete dead weight in terms of defense

Poland is incredibly well developing and has big military plans. Hopefully the way will be to "count only on yourself" and not messing up with alliances/unions as especially Poland will be in a huge risk during any war and noone will help. And this country has a big potential
