A Political Thread pt. 2

Surprised how different how celebrating your country is seen in England by the English. Compared to recent trips to Wales and Calgary. Wales flags, St David flags and Maple Leafs bloody every where.
Calgary's pretty much a conservative heartland. You don't even see that much in Ottawa for Canada Day (which most locals treat with amusement and a day off) apart from fireworks.

Like I say its more the standoffish element of the second half of the speech which has a "we're not allowed to celebrate our culture" vibe to it.

Union Flags are less a problem but definitely the St. George flag is sadly associated with more ugly stuff thanks to the far right.

Although I do get sad every year around this time when Tewkesbury takes down its battle flags and replaces them with union ones.

I don't think it's that surprising. Smaller countries who have a history of being shat on by bigger more powerful counties will likely hold onto a stronger sense of national identity.

I agree though, I don't think there should be any stigma of people wanting to feel pride or celebrate their Englishness. Probably not helped with England history of empire and what not but as I said then other day, the idea of feeling pride, or shame, for your country is a bit silly imo unless you, or your family, have played a direct role in that moment of pride or shame.

I genuinely didn't realize how bad the UK economy is at the moment. Since 2008, our two countries have undergone significant divergence.

Apparently, there is a welfare scheme to get a free car if you have anxiety or some other normal human condition like depression.

Is this serious? Are y'all seriously giving out new cars to people because they have ADHD or obesity?

People falling for the usual traps of blaming the poor and the vulnerable

Tale as old as time

Without clicking on the links I would say that is largely BS.
My links. They are from official government sources. What's BS about them?

You've had nearly 20 years of non-existent productivity or economic growth, while adding millions of low-wage workers. Is the government data wrong? If so, what is accurate figures to cite?
Check you're eligible
You can get a Motability car or vehicle if you've been awarded:

 • the higher rate of the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
 • the enhanced rate of the mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
 • Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP) or War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement
 • the enhanced rate of the mobility component of Adult Disability Payment
 • the higher rate of the mobility component of Child Disability Payment

Looks like the article was right.

Looks like you can't understand it
ADHD people basically don't qualify for the mobility part of it, in fact to qualify for it in general is massively hard

And if you do qualify for it, it takes away your entire mobility component.

Stop falling for clickbait ****

UK economy shrinking...

Apparently, some of y'all should move to Slovenia.

None of those are anxiety

The majority of your posts are talking about it, so I don't understand how
He’s saying it like it will hurt our feelings or something. He doesn’t understand the British psyche and how, deep down, we love complaining and being miserable. Way better than the nauseating “can do” optimistic American attitude.

You know things are bad when you've lost the HuffPost

So, Reeves was looking to shrink the budget, but with all the recent U-Turns, the budget is ADDING $100 million in costs. Oy vey.

I mean thats nothing new

It's been like that ever since this country went from a industrial country to a finance country and thatcher only made it worse by pumping North Sea oil to help fund tax cuts for the finance lot

The country outside of London is a mess and has been a mess since before I was born

No one cares, mate

You'd probably be better off trying to rage bait on twitter or something
