A Political Thread pt. 2

Hahahaha

Brothers boy, not brothers not. Hahahaha

Why are you questioning that lol are you ok?
Nah just catching you in another lie. Why not refer to him as your nephew as a normal human?

11 year olds are not taught what a VPN is in school. Unless its by other kids. They're lucky to be taught it at GCSE level. My neice was making her choices at Christmas for the coming academic year. The syllabus for computer science was laughable in how bad and outdated it was when the detail was presented.

I've just been scanning through the BBC Bitesize at the various syllabus' Eduqas has the best Network syllabus (IMHO). It covers nothing on VPN or tunnelling protocols.

Its not even covered in network security at all. Its all pretty surface level stuff and no more advanced to what I was taught....26ish years ago when I took GCSE IT as an optional course and it was first being introduced. Which is really sad.

Wait, you googled it? Hahaha

I was in classrooms last academic year, working with at risk kids in years 7, 8 and 9. When logging on to all high school laptops they all needed to use a VPN to enable access.

The council's network restrictions blocked a large number of very appropriate sites that schools use, so children are taught VPN usage in class as part of their IT access program when they start high school. Kids use school laptops with pre installed software.

I assume this is standard, I cant imagine just 1 or 2 high schools do this.

High School? What's that?
The council blocked access?
IT allowed the installation of SW to circumvent network security?
Giving kids admin rights?

The only VPN that would be allowed be one to access the school network and resources. But that's a simple connect and password thing. Kids won't be taught how something like NordVPN works.

Im in a similar boat, at this stage I think a lot of people who have a tiny amount of knowledge about how the Internet works feel the same.

Labour seem to be marketing this to those who dont know what a VPN is, but that number is small and getting smaller.

11 year olds are taught what VPNs are in class.

The young children who could potentially stumble across harmful content are far more likely to come across this material on YouTube, twitch, or online gaming. There are hundreds of example of 'tasteful pron' on these platforms, and sex work camouflaged as art. Then there are the soft pron game channels.

My brothers boy recently subscribed to 3 twitch streamers, he's 12 and all his friends were playing online when one of them began a conversation with a streamer sat in her bikini, in a hot tub... they all subscribed to her channell, there were nip slips and dirty talk, and one managed to subscribe to her only fans before the parents caught it and stopped it all. This all happened in a matter of 2 to 3 days.
We used to make do with ripped up porn mags at the local park

You dont know what a high school is?

Here you go:

What is a high school in the UK?

Secondary school, also called high school or senior school, is for children between the ages of 11-16, and will take the student through year 7 to 11

ok, so im going to spell thisnout for you super slow, so you can understand.

no children have admin access, why would they be?

Cardiff council restrict school (and other organisations) Internet use, it doesnt align with school requirements. Schools give year 7 students a basic class on IT access when they arrive, and show them how to use the VPN installed to access the Internet. They also show them how to use a VPN to access school resources while at home.

there is not a huge jump, from using legitimate school VPNs for work inside and outside school, to downloading a free VPN, promoted by your favourite you tuber, in order to access Netflix shows not allowed in your region, or to access other content restricted by parents or other agencies.

Its not difficult to understand that high school children use VPNs, I dont know why youd argue against it

We?!?!?! Hahaha

I remember finding a video tape in my uncles sock draw when I was young, got all the local kids together to watch 'Aunt Peg' hahahaha

It was a right of passage back then, and a group activity to laugh at.

Your not fact checking yourself, your googling specifics to try to prove your assertion. Thats the opposite of fact checking.
I read all 4 syllabus on the subject from the BBC bitesize website (generally considered a pretty good resource). My assertion was it was not taught at GCSE level, it is not.

I have never heard secondary school referred to as high school once in the UK.

I don't think they were taught it school dude....I think you've got a massive leap of logic there of where that they were taught in school.

I'm still baffled by council having restrictions run and managed by an IT department and the same said IT department lifting said restrictions through a VPN by giving children unrestricted internet access circumventing network secuirty (TO CHILDREN). Rather than you know firewall exceptions.

Awwwww dont back track now, your counter to my assertion that year 7 children are taught VPNs in class was 11 year olds are not taught what a VPN is in school.

noone mentioned GCSE, your trying to riggle out of your stance. I have worked with 11 year olds who use VPNs in and outside of school, and have had explained to me the IT access scheme they receive which involves logging on to a VPN.

But here we go, first Google result is a document to students on how to log on to VPN.

This is from a School called Cardiff High School. All secondary schools are generally called High schools in Wales, is that a generational thing? Im pretty sure its not, kids still refer to them as high schools, maybe its just your region who doesnt use the term?

I've been to High schools on Bristol, London, Swindon, and Scotland all referred to as High who have it in their name too. Maybe im wrong, i assumed it was a UK thing. Infact, Wallace High school Stirling definately refer to themselves as a high school.

To My knowledge is a LOT of UK councils filter Internet use in places like offices, libraries and schools, again maybe im wrong, but Cardiff council certainly do. Im sure theres a list out there. Noone mentioned 'unrestricted access' again your just trying to riggle away from your point that VPNs arent taught in class. The VPNs used in class are already set and have their own filtering and monitoring for online safety, it just doesnt align with the councils. Im sure they mentioned no video or audio use was the key issues, and a VPN was required for this.

So to clarify for you, without you pivoting so hard you'll break your ankles...

11 year olds are 100% taught how to use a VPN at 11 in class. Not at GCSE, not to watch Pron in class, not private VPNs, and no child is given admin access.

Did you read the page? I'm guessing not its just about access to the school network.
Do you understand how a VPN works? I'm guessing not considering you pulled that page and thought it proved something.

You said specifically they use VPN's to access content outside of the network restrictions. That link only gives them access into the network from remotely.

Ultimately I still stand by that original point they are not taught what a VPN is or even how it works they are taught "here's a application that allows you access your school stuff, its called a VPN". My wife is taught the same thing with her work laptop if shes home working she doesn't have a clue how it works or what it actually does.
On that note I'm of to set up a twitch account. Bikini gamers here I come.
I think they cut down on that content a lot in recent years, twitch has actively fought it, just create a pornhub account like a self respecting adult.

You have twitch account, honestly just create a porn hub account like any self-respecting adult.
I have a twitch account for watching my favorite streamers of wholesome Canadian tomfoolery and their annual fund raiser for kids.

Plus you don't need an account (or didn't before the UK prude act)

On the VPN front I'm fairly certain most kids initially learn it from adverts I know the Kermode and Mayo podcast use to do ads for NordVPN specially as way of accessing streaming services from abroad and heard plenty and you only have to access tech website to find that stuff pretty easially. I always found said ads dodgy as its specifically about circumventing licensing agreements but I guess thats not Nord's problem.

Anyway fairly certain this is where kids learn this stuff rather than taught it school.

Ultimately where do kids learn this stuff? Other older kids who learn of other kids to you get to the one who has enough knowledge (probably more than the teachers).

We did it to play Hearts over the network (we had one computer lab without internet access in school).

Im not sure at this point if your just bored and on a troll...

I have been very clear that they use VPNs to access APPROPRIATE educational content outside of the councils restrictions, but within the online safety policy of the school, in which the VPNs are installed by. And that VPNs are used outside of the school to access schools resources. This has been reiterated over and over.

To be taught what a VPN does and how to use the legitimate versions in school, is teaching them about VPNs in the classroom. I've evidenced that over and over, and I won't keep going around in circles with your pivoting.

The introduction to VPNs, how to use them and why they are using them is absolutely taught to kids, ive witnessed it, and im sure most high school parent here knows. To transition from legitimate school VPNs to one that is sold by every young youtuber, and streamer is barely a step sideways, especially when they all have free little risk versions.

This portion of discussion is closed, you made a silly point refuted over and over. Let's move on
