A Political Thread pt. 2

No, I'm sorry - but the sacrifice wasn't worth the result of what it is now.”

Alec continued: “What we fought for was our freedom, but now it's a darn sight worse than when I fought for it.”

Does anyone else find this an absolute wild take?

Utmost respect to everyone who fought in two world wars, but to claim it was not worth it is wild (especially WW2).

The usually suspects on X and social media are weaponising his comments to push their agenda.

I would have thought this was pretty standard, i know a lot of soldiers returned and were pretty bitter about the experience, and treatment afterward, and that got worse as time went on and the country changes.

"They promised homes fit for heros, and they got heros fit for homes"

I understand where’s he coming from, but it’s way over the top.

The problem is that we live in a society of entitlement and complacency. Want everything, but don’t want to contribute. Mix that with blame and division politics, gives us a lovely toxic culture. Huzzzah

In the past there was a lot of "I fought in the war for you" types. It's not really new. Yes the veterans of the war were brave men who endured great hardship but that doesn't suddenly make them any more qualified to talk about the state of society than anyone else, they can still be wrong. A veteran who says they are glad they fought for the society we have today doesn't make an interesting headline.

The root of the discussio n is:

Is the UK culture changing, and is it changing too quickly?

I think everyone agrees with the first part, there is a disagreement on the srcond.

The stupidity at the BBC is staggering. The Gaza documentary and now this. You don't need to edit a speech together to show Trumps says dumb stuff. They successful provided the right with fake news, biased woke lefties ammunition, they also shot themselves with the gun.
