Wales used to be good. Really, really good.
They've had plenty of successful teams and eras: the early 20th century, the 1930s, 1950s and of course a few pro-era teams. But when you think of the best Welsh teams ever, the teams of the 1970s are in a league of their own.
They played a swashbuckling brand of running rugby that continued the tradition of the 1967 All Blacks. Like those Kiwis they were ahead of their time, and in the hands of all-time greats Gareth Edwards, Barry John and JPR Williams they took it to another level.
In terms of results, they dominated the NH for a full decade: from 1969 to 1979 they won 8 Five Nations Championships, 3 Grand Slams and 6 Triple Crowns. Against the south, they couldn't beat the All Blacks but beat Australia multiple times. They only played the Boks once, drawing 6-6.
