+1. I think if Robshaw gets a shot at 6 for quinns and England he will suprise a few people. Some forget how good some of his performances were for England despite every man and his dog telling him he shouldnt be playing there.

To be fair, that's talking about Robshaw specifically as an openside. I feel that being "workmanlike" is Robshaw's point of difference, and is especially useful at 6. Even if Jones thought Robshaw lacks a point of difference for international rugby in general, under new guidance, Robshaw does have the chance to develop that point of difference.

And although he lags behind the 7s, Robshaw would be ahead of most international 6s in the breakdown. A Robshaw/Kvesic or Fraser partnership would be impressive in the breakdown IMO. But maybe Jones is looking for a specialist 6 too, I'm not sure.

I think people do a disservice to Ewers when it comes to his breakdown work too. Sure, he's not an out-and-out jackal, but he's significantly above average for 6. More flexible than Robshaw and stronger than Wood over the ball.

Ironically wood is playing his best rugby for years again at 7. He is winning turnovers and being a pest at the breakdown.

He's always been fairly good for Northampton the same as Goode is always good for Sarries . I still don't want either of them near the England team because they just can't produce the goods consistently at international level

I do love Tom wood for Northampton at times but feel he lacks that extra bit of.......strength, or speed, or something at international level.

I do think he was the best 6 in England for a number of years though but at international level you need that bit extra.

Alex Goode's positioning and kicking is about as good as you'll see from a 15 anywhere and it's a huge shame that England never really found a way to bring his vision and distribution into play effectively because it's been quite key for Sarries. He is simply not a good enough broken-field runner to play international rugby but a team better suited to his strengths could have hidden that a lot better and at domestic level, he's not too shabby.

In short, your post was wrong... and now I feel dirty for defending Alex Goode.

The Tom Wood that burst onto the international scene didn't really appear short of strength or speed.

I've seen Quins fans remarking on how quick Robshaw looks now. Really is beginning to feel like the pre-season conditioning kicked in too late for England...
