Won't Gibbs be back and Kallis be bowling, that'll certainly improve South Africa. Hoggard's comments should stir up South Africa as well.

Simon Jones looks doubtful with a Stomach Bug, Jimmy Anderson will replace him if needed.

Second test starts tomorrow, suspect I may not be alive and active until at least mid afternoon so looking forward to getitng up to the sight of Strauss'y smashing 'em about or Harmy skittling them out.

hehe not quite this time around

139 all out

Good news is that pitch has shown some variable bounce and England's bowlers look better on paper. GOtta perform though.

Finally, 332 all out, Kallis 162.

Very well batted, not the greatest bowling, but the heat and lack of Ashley Giles were the main factors. Big task now, need some heroes.

137-0 ...looking v good all of a sudden
Seems like they're playing follow the leader, if a few players go good it inspires the team, and vice versa for the first inns

210 - 0 so far, Tresko has just scored his 100.

Superb display so far from England.

what can i say? the proteas' bowlers are terrible....the first innings was more poor batting then good bowling...

The problem is that Pollock is so much better than all the other bowlers, and coz he's old and cant bowl for long, the time when he's not bowling, resting basically is when the oppo gets a chance to get ahead, like steyns first 4 overs went for 35! Ntini is pretty good, but the attack is nowhere as near as strong as Harmison, Hoggard, Jones, Flintoff + Giles.

Slightly disappointing morning, finishing on 366-4

Trescothick 132
Strauss 136
Butcher 13
Vaughan 10
Thorpe 35*
Flintoff 21*
G Jones
Giles
...

497-5.

Lead by 304. We should declare with 45 minutes to go and have a right pop at the openers and see if we can do any damage.

Well they've declared now with a lead of 377. Couple of quick wickets and they should be set for an interesting final day.
