England World Cup Squad

Remember when he just randomly started smashing out drop goals out of nowhere?

Yeah, that was great. :) We could do with a few more drop-goalers (goal-droppers?) in the team, it's a great weapon to have in our arsenal. Not sure why we don't see it more when games are tight.

How long does it take to get over that? A burst appendix is life threatening isn't it?
And if he needs it removed I doubt that's a two week turnaround after surgery?

At what point do we look at a replacement? Has he even trained fully this camp with his injuries and illnesses?

Edit:
Just read that he's
A) Had surgery on his appendix
B) Is not yet signed off to run after his ankle injury.

He's a starter, for me, but I'd replace him. This is too much of a risk, and a waste of a spot that should be going on a 9 or 3.

Nowell is easily replaceable

Slooow & Short wingers are not appealing to me

Replace him with his teammate Harry Williams so ENG have 6 props & 18 forwards in total

Plus rest Mako V, George, Sinckler, Itoje and Billy V entirely when ENG play Tier 2 teams

Appendicitis is an inflamed appendix, keyhole surgery and should be okayish by the RWC

A burst appendix leads to Peritonitis and that's some scary **** and will likely mean Nowell will miss the RWC (and then some) in recovery. My sister was sent home from hospital three times in one day with the A&E doctor sarcastically saying on the third "wait until Peritonitis sets in', we had to ring ambulance when she started vomitting 'uncontrollably' and she had emergency surgery at 1am in the morning.

Likely the former rather than the latter for Nowell.

Feel very sorry for Nowell, but its a no brainer to agree with your conclusion.

Any update on slade?

Nowell will be off his feet for a least a week in terms of training and if he has barely trained because of his ankle then his match fitness will be too low for the world cup, real shame because he is a great player and can add alot to the squad.

Looking like Nowell is going to Japan, as is slade.

Mcc should be fit for Italy.

Of the home nations i think England may have the most out of the warm up matches so far, 2 games
with experimental teams where we didnt disappoint agaist a near full strength Wales squad. A close loss to a strong wales team in cardiff with the roof closed says that the same team will push any tier 2 nations.
Then when we went out with our first team and we dominated a strong Ireland team.

We are not perfect and still have work to do to win this thing but with italy next to give experience to those who need gametime and/or experience we are looking good going forward.

I cant wait now. Only working for 1 England game and i may be lucky to be on nights so i can watch it. :)

The game with Argentina is not until 15th October, so Nowell (or anyone else nursing ****les) has another 6wks to get up to fitness for when we start facing tougher opponents. I think he was always going to be fighting it out with Watson to start and Cokanasiga has laid down a marker too, so his best bet may be as an impact sub anyway.

Its actually on 5th October , which gives them 5 weeks, but i agree with you anyway. Plenty enough time to get up to speed, especially as the games against Tonga and USA are glorified warm-ups anyway and can be used to test and sharpen up any fitness concerns. Talk of replacing anyone now is a bit premature.

Oops - typo there.

Sounds like McConnochie will get his debut on Friday. I hope he goes well.

With there being a bit of a debate around who should start in our back row I've collected stats from the warm-up games to try and get a better idea of who has performed the best.

The number next to the name is the amount a player has averaged per game, the number in brackets is their total throughout the warm-ups. Kvesic only played 23 minutes and so I haven't included his stats as they skew the results a bit. Underneath I've included the highest and lowest scoring forwards from each category for reference.

I've done the same for all of the forwards and can post them if people are interested but don't want to clog up the thread.
