I think Caluori being picked highlights the main issue. He's not being selected to develop in a settled team and potentially provide a future option. He's being selected to hopefully fix a hole that Borthwick hasn't been able to fill permanently. It's all based on hoping thi gs work, rather than having a clear plan.

JvP isn’t Test match quality. He’s 25, first played for England in 2022 and hasn’t had a good game in an England shirt yet.

How many caps has he got? And hasn't he had injuries keeping him out and slowing development.

I'm not saying he is the future I just think he is the best option available. He is a good player and has had a good season and no reason to rush Mitchell back after a hamstring injury...
