Nah, I've gone off nintendo quite a lot since the Wii. Didn't like the direction they took Zelda, Mario is Mario and they're no longer making the other games I liked from them.

The direction of Zelda to what is considered as one of the most impactful games of the franchise?

I'm holding fire on the Switch 2 until the release of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment in Winter 2025.

Same, holding off on the switch 2.

Anyone get their hands on a NS2?
nah, as a more casual gamer who more often that not took the Nintendo route when choosing a new console, ive just seen very little that would justify the cost, i found it worrying how often the "selling point" was screen shots of the "improved" graphics from a 2 years old game (TotK) if not an 8 year old game (BotW)...the saving grace would have been either some amazing new marquee title (Mario Kart isn't that for me)....or a swathe of older games that havent been available before. i know some of those are coming....but not loads and theyre still charging +$80 for them....im more than happy with the Steam Deck and my +15 AAA game library i didn;t pay more than $15 (often as little as $3) each for

Yeah I'm skipping it too,
Way too much for something I would likely only use for Mario games - my brother has bought one (says it's because his kids love mario kart....in reality it's because he's a huge Zelda fanboy) so I'll try and pinch a few rounds of Mario kart when I'm over there instead

Ehh it's always the same with launch hardware. Barely any games to justify a purchase unless you're an acolyte. In a year or two it'll be interesting but when Mario Kart World is the only meal on sale why bother

Yeah, Nintendo seem to get a free pass on stuff like this. BOTW was just like a lot of other open world games. A huge map, but little to actually do. I much preferred the more focused, dungeon approach. It's far better and more engaging as each area tells its own story through the game design and world building. Open world mostly feels like AI driven soup in content.

a huge agree to disagree there, little to do?

i still havent really had someone explain. and maybe you can, what they mean when they say BotW didn;t have dungeons, the sacred beasts are themed maze like areas where youre trying to get aMacGuffin needed for the wider plot

and then you have 120 shrines which are like mini dungeons with a combo of puzzle solving and combat

the only thing i can think of was there are different ways to complete them all, you dont have to do the beasts in an order or after you have a special tool

Not really. The beasts were quite small and simple in comparison. Plus, it all feels the same. There's nothing unique about any of them like dungeons of old. Like I said, it's a nintendo thing. People seem to be very forgiving if it's them and criticism just isn't allowed.

it sounds like im just being difficult and im sorry and happy to just move on as i dont mean to be....but i guess i just dont understand the point, you have 4 different ones that a themed and unique (water, air, fire and lightning) and having played through OoT and MM just recently after finding my old 3DS some of those arent huge and thats before to talk about the 2D games where dungeons might have been 6-9 rooms

Don't worry, it's just something I've noticed about Nintendo. I only play games every now and then so I'm not that bothered about it. I'm kinda happy
to just play the odd games outside the big brands. I find them far better with less barriers (hardware, always online, mtx etc).

i think im just kind of invested as i feel like youre right in some ways, i dont understand why theyre not being critiqued more for pretty much every aspect of switch 2 or other things like mario galaxy only being briefly released on the switch but not again and not as a digital....or not releasing several of the old zeldas on switch (have had great fun playing WW and TP on steam deck) or even games like BotW and TotK still being full price years after release...the dungeon thing i just never understood

It's probably my age tbf.

I don't know though. I feel like the premium side (big brands etc) has sort of lost me. Live services, remakes (not all bad), mtx, no ownership from digital, high costs, big downloads, updates weeks later to fix issues etc. Meanwhile outside of premium, I can play a ton of completely new, fresh and creative ideas that look great on a simple computer, have better support, smaller downloads, less bugs, ownership and cheaper.

No way. I was looking forward to a Perfect Dark reboot
Same. I didn't even care if it was high budget or not, we just haven't had a game like that in years. Xbox seem to have grown so big with all these purchases, they don't have a clue what they're doing.

I think the XBox main issue is lack of "original" IP marquee games (that are actually good).

What am I (if I were buying an XBox) buying one for?

I use "original" because I'd include GoW but thats more a reboot than a change.

Sony has including times exclusives,

GoW
Ghost of Series
Final Fantasy Remakes
Astro Bot
Stellar Blade
TLOU
Marvel's Spider-Man
FF16

Those are some pretty heavy hitters XBox has had what Bethesda's latest bugged out piece of rubbish?
