I'm looking to play rugby next year in college, but at this point dont really know much about it. I'm 6'2" (1.88m) and weigh 170 lbs (77 kg), although I pretty solidly built and most people would guess I weigh around 200 lbs. I have average speed, but have lifted weights for the past two years so I have decent strength and am fairly athletic. I play soccer, basketball and do throwing in track and feild. What position would I be best suited to play/am I cut out for the sport?

Also, what additional training should I be doing and what skills should I be working on?

I think flank or 8th man could be a suitable position for you, judging by your height. Maybe try and gain a bit more weight, practice passing and read up on all the positions of rugby and make a decision from there.

Difficult to see where 170lbs with average speed would fit in. If you're that light then you need some speed. You could try back row I suppose, just bulk up a bit without losing any pace.
