Most Overrated Players

Paul Sackey - Good for wasps, but in internationals I remember him scoring one decent try and that's about it. Outshone by Simpson-Daniel in most departments.

Depends whether you are talking about players that are overated by coaches and selectors, or those who are overated by the general public. If I stick to the tri-nations teams that I am most familiar with:

Those overated by selectors would include : Albert van der Berg, Ricky Januarie, Wynand Olivier, David Lyons, Al Baxter

Those overated by the public include:
Piri Weepu, Luke MacAlister, Pierre Spies, Troy Flavell, Percy Montgomery, Rico Gear, Drew Mitchell

George Gregan, he has been here for a long long time and I have always think he was too slow to deliver the ball, usually he will make one more step than will slow down the game.

I Agree george is past it.

I think Latham will be past it too. Wait for the world cup, he wont be Aus's saviour

I tend to think that Matt Giteau`s scrumhalf play is greatly overrated too....

Peter Stringer - They love him up in Munster, and for the life of me I cant think why! You know all your gonna get from him is a pass. Poor kicking game, poor defensive game, poor attacking game in my opinion.

Augustin Pichot - Never seen him perform as good as they say

He was excellent with le Stade Français...

For me:

Damien Traille

Luke McAllister

Mark Cueto

And Michalak (but he's still a good player... sometimes)

shane williams - meant to be one of the world's best players buts gets owned by his oppsite winger time and time again.

Gavin henson - pretty average and not been in form for a long time. again is supposedly one of the world's best best players

johnny wilkinson - done nothing since 2003

Ruben thorne - does nothing special on the pitch or add any real value to the abs but still gets picked

I'll only comment on Australian players -

Nathan Sharpe - pretty good in the lineout, but pretty useless in every other aspect of the game. I prefer Mark Chisholm.

Lote Tuqiri - has played well below his best since 2004. Overpaid.

Mat Giteau at scrumhalf - did anyone else notice he can't shoot out a pass from left to right unless he turns around?

Wycliff Palu and David Lyons - big men, TOO SLOW. Palu let DuPreez run over the top of him in South Africa last year.

Chris Whitaker - was apparently meant to be better than Gregan according to the NSW press. Never saw it.

Phil Waugh - good player, nowhere near as good as Smith though. Shouldn't be vice-captain.

Drew Mitchell - has got a bit of pace but can't tackle or catch a high ball.

Rodney Blake - I really like Rodney Blake, but he surely wasn't the scrum saviour that everyone touted him to be. Not as good as Shepherdson, and certainly not as good in the scrum as Ma'afu.

Al Baxter - wait, nobobdy rates him anyways...

Now I'll aim elsewhere -

Byron Kelleher - New Zealand, if you want to win the World Cup play with Leonard.

Johnny Wilkinson - had one good year in the game?

Shane Williams is clearly one of the best wingers in the NH, yeah he gets tackled but he can also dance his way out of trouble create try scoring opportunities out of nowhere and he can also tackle when he needs to...

And on Gavin Henson, he is clearly a lot more than " pretty average" and both he and Wilkinson both have been plagued with injuries for a long time now so how can they pick up form without being able to play?

Tuqiri - Can't pass or kick. Thinks he's a fly half and a superstar. He's actually super-average.

Mat Giteau - Fantastic in any position as long as it's only for half a game. After that he goes missing and his crapness becomes all to obvious

Larkham - Ex-Superstar. Has hardly done anything right for the last 4 years. Been gun shy ever since being smashed all over the park by NZ a few years back. Can't hack it any more and should be coaching by now.

Isnt New Zealand like USA's New York Yankees? They are too good and nobody likes them anymore? lol just asking.

His 'crapness', coming from a Waratahs fan that's rich...

Still the best flyhalf in the country, and still one of the best in the world.

i think it's a cop out to accuse tiquiri of thinking he's a fly half. sure he's playing average at the moment but i can't see how trying to be a fly half has anything to do with it.

giteau and larkham are in the top 5 most influential players for the wallabies
