EVENT PROGRAMME

6pm - Goliath Project Team, Level 11 Games
Level 11 Games will launch their unique action game Goliath currently in development for the PC.
Going beyond the simple 'drive around and shoot everything' mechanics associated with the words 'vehicle combat', Goliath places the player in a team environment with goals such as repairing objective buildings, escorting unarmed vehicles and preventing the discovery of key locations.
Members of the project team will provide in-depth information about the development process of Goliath and outline some of the games unique features and technologies. After the presentation, attendees will be given the opportunity to test out a demo of Goliath.
The team at Level 11 Games are a group of extremely talented graduates from Media Design School's Graduate Diploma of Game Development.

6.30pm - Todd Gantzler
Artists, Digital Games, and Media Design School
What being a Game Artist is all about. The role game artists play in improving game graphics and driving technology enhancements. How Media Design School can help launch your career in the games industry.

Todd Gantzler is Course Leader for the Graduate Diploma of Game Development at Media Design School. Todd has worked in the games industry on ***les including Rebel Assault II, Gex 3D, Cyberia, and Akuji the Heartless as 2D and 3D Artist, Character Animator, and Game Designer. His book Game Development Essentials: Video Game Art was published in July 2004.

6.45pm - Lorin Jameson
Games are big business
As the games industry grows at an exponential rate, the average development costs per ***le now exceed $5 million. The heat is on for developers to make games faster and more efficiently and the risks and costs involved are squeezing out the small development studios. How do developers (artists, programmers, and designers) fit into this equation, what does the future hold for them, and how can they manage their careers through these changing and challenging times?

Lorin Jameson is Game Programming tutor for Media Design School’s Graduate Diploma of Game Development. Lorin's career in the games business started 12 years ago. He has worked for numerous US games studios including Kesmai Corporation, Dynamix and Digital Anvil in various capacities including Technical Director, Director of Online Technology and Executive Producer. Most recently Lorin was Studio President of his own game development company Lodestone Games.
Lorin's game credits include Air Warrior for Windows, Air Warrior 2 and 3, Legends of Kesmai, Freelancer, Eucher, Planetside and Asheron's Call.

7pm - Mario Wynands, Sidhe Interactive
The New Zealand perspective
Managing Director of New Zealand’s largest and most successful game development studio, Sidhe Interactive will showcase working demos and media from the following, soon to be released commercial game ***les.

Haha, I'll keep that in mind GG.

Yeah, I won't be going myself as I don't live in Auckland, but I thought it would be nice to share the information with yo'll.

You have to email they people to let them know you're coming (see third paragraph), but it's free (I think), and I think anyone can go.

Just don't beat me up if they don't actually have RL2 on display, all I know is what was in that email.

Its unlikely that RL2 will be playable by attendees, but I might show a quick game and will definitely show the E3 trailer and new screenshots.

Mate, for those who havn't experienced the rush of winning a major horse race after perfect positioning/riding tactics, is missing out.........

Having a "European" take on a horse racing game has really got my interest, even more then the rugby league sequel (mainly because such a game is still rather unique nowdays).

Damn it u lucky New Zealanders!!

Anyone knows how much it cost to get to Auckland from Cardiff?

that u r chiro

the adrenalin pumps like no other game when u've ran the perfect race, coming home from behind the pack in front of a packed house as they roar around the final bend, to crack the whip out with 300m to go and finish the field off in style to take that Group 1.

with a race call and our home tracks - i cant wait!!!

Did any of you play that race horse game in Stages down town Auckland? (first person horse racing). The one where you sat on it and rode it like a real horse. It was normally in pairs or fours. Gosh that was so funny that game. You had to time your run so you weren't getting tired (you were doing all the pushing/pulling) and go like mad on the last straight. People would come around the game and laugh away as your ass went up and down (so rude!) but no one cared while they were riding it. All they could see was the finish line and trying to beat everybody else. Only when the race was over would you think "How embaressing." Unless you had a nice ass you wanted to show off.

i have spent about $100 on that game

we had it in sydney on george street opposite the cinemas

so when we were out on the drink we'd always load it up when walking past

"final furlong" is what it is called

seriously a good way to keep fit............u couldnt feel ur arms when each race was over

yeah everyone stop to watch as it the only one of its kind, and u looked like a fool when riding the thing

but i reckon the ultimate fools are the ones on the arcade dancing games, where all u do is line dance to the symbols

some people played sega rally, some people played daytona.......but everyone stopped to watch when they heard the racing trumpets go off, and they headed to the gate!!!!!!

Yeah.........I was in great shape when I played it but I would always feel totally buggered when I played it.

All I remember was my mates all laughing at me.

god that game was so awesome!! I loved it too, lol!

it was so funny that you would lose all your rhythm and laugh even more...gut bustingly hilairous and ainfully exhausting.

anyone ever play the not-quite ralised, but also quite fun soccer game at the arcades - where the balls are atatched beneath the controls of the two/four (can't remember) player sticks (down by your feet) and you actually kick the ball (angle and pressure sensitive) to pass to each other and shoot....or can use buttons in some situations too....I almost broke my foot going for the mad strike that was tipped away at the corner...it was so fun(ny).

Like invading the death satr in that old star wars game and blowingup the daeth star....these are memories that must be treasured.
