Hi - Here's something that has always puzzled me that somebody here might know: why isn't rugby a major sport in Germany and why aren't they good at it? Yes, I know rugby is played in German, I mean on the same scale as in, say, France or even Italy. The key period for rugby's introduction to Germany would have been approximately 1890-1914 when, despite growing nationalist tensions, there was begruding admiration for all things British. If it had taken a firm foothold then quite possibly it would have grown to be a major, now professional, sport. Sam

Thanks. Seems without a string of historical accidents Germany might well be beating England at rugby (like NZ), like Sri Lanka at cricket, like Italy, Uraguay at football...
