Springboks vs Wallabies, 28 Aug 2010, Loftus Versfeld

Hey Sam, i'm really looking forward to this one too, and thought your draw was a good call ... i'm going with SA based on last week's performance ... but then again the Wallabies last performance was pretty good too, and they are well rested, have Quade Cooper back, etc

They actually playing for the Mandela Cup still
Oh ok first Ive heard of the Mandela cup but a very worthy cup it is as it bears the name of a great man. Yeah I thought a draw would be very likely but as the weeks progressed Im not so sure, so just like last week Im gonna put my money on the Springboks.:)

Turner has been included in the commonwealth games sevens team, so won't have been considered for that reason ... a pity though, i thought he did pretty well with the limited opportunities he's had

I always thought it was the opposite: first Deans left him out of the squad, then he was named captain of Australia Seven for Commonwealth Game!
But now I think Deans recalled him due to a new injury for Cameron Shepherd, I miss the p-r link now...

Well, I'm a Wallabies' fan, but i like SA too, anyway at this time, I hope Wallabies can come away from Pretoria with a convincing victory, not only because I support them, but... that's because I think PDV is doing wrong with his own player, continuing using them for physical matches, and they fall down in the dying minutes of these matches when they are clear tired.
You can't play for 2 years with the same guys, playing always the same kind of rugby (very physical and tiresome), even when it not pays it in terms of results and players' form and attitude.

And he's doing this 12 months before RWC!!

He, not SA, deserves to loose one of these 2 matches against Australia!

He could have picked a brand new team, testing some players like Deans has done since november (and maybe it was already late!), looking for depth in some position (full back, fly half, 8man, lock and hooker), but no, he will field the same old tired players, though they are not in 100% form!
Maybe he's gonna do that in the final test, but it won't be a great solution for the future... only one match, and then 2 months pause!

I'm sorry for SA... but now I want Australia to win!

Deans aint too bad considering his record with the Crusaders and the state of the Wallabies before he agreed to coach them. PDV had a fantastic year last year with no real complaints about the referee's but he took over the world champs so there really wasnt much fixing to do. It's like if PDV and Deans were told to build a house, PDV was given an experienced master builder and Deans with the apprentice.
Wicked analogy.

Let's put it this way, as much as I hate Dingo/Traitor Deans, I think if HE were the Boks' coach, NZ would be having serious issues of trying to win the RWC.

Strong aussie line up, surprised to see Adam Ashley Cooper at centre. it's probably better though because Kurtley Beale does add something to the declining Aussie backs. I thought Anthony Fainga'a would have been an obvious choice though, he was the only one who seemed he wanted to bust the All Blacks defence lines. Running hard and straight at Ma'a Nonu, not much players do that, but he did it well in his first game against the All Blacks and he held up very well..

Yeah I 2nd that. I think he'd be bring a Crusaders like attack to the 'boks. I can only speculate his advantages for the 'boks but I'm sure that it will only be a plus plus if he was at the helm of the Springbok U.S.S Enterprise.

to be fair de villiers did try to make the boks more attacking when he took over but the problem was the old heads didnt want to so they coached themselves in 09

Admartian, I know your main point isn't that you hate Robbie Deans, but I thought i'd comment on it none the less :p

... basically if the reason that you hate him is because he's coaching overseas, then I just don't get that - Graeme Henry and Steve Hanson both coached Wales before coaching the All Blacks, and lots of players have stints overseas

... wouldn't surprise me if Deans ends up coaching the All Black in a few years time

Well at first it was kinda that.

But then I think he's just an arrogant, smug, pompous ass.

Good coach, but I would prefferrably have someone else. :p

You know him personally admartian? I guessed you would cause you sure wouldn't base that on a couple of TV clips.

Oh great, an apologists.

One can't have an opinion based on what they seen? So does that mean we ALL can't have an opinion on how players play because we only see them on tv and not see the WHOLE picture when they practice...

hey, thanks for the explanation we can't all like the same coaches, players, people ... it would make these forums pretty dull for one thing ... :D

I actually met him once, not long after he took over as wallabies coach, they had an open day at North Sydney Oval for kids rugby - they had a few Wallabies there, doing skills etc. My daughter was with me in her Crusaders jersey, amongst this sea of kids getting their Wallabies jerseys, which Robbie was signing ... anyway he signed the Crusaders jersey, and made my daughter happy, so I thought he was pretty good for doing that :D

Probably helps you are a Crusaders fan lol! :p

Wonder how he would treat an Aucklander such as I?

HAHA, yes being a crusaders fan probably didn't hurt, although I wasn't sure how he was going to react to be honest ...

The ex-Blues coach, and ARU high performance manager, David Nucifora was standing right there, while I took pictures of Robbie and my daughter, if that's makes you feel any better

... Anyway, i'm sure he'd have given you a welcome at least as warm as if you turned up at Lancaster park (i no it's not called that anymore, but it will always be that to me), in your Auckland supporters jersey :p

... don't worry, I know all about warm welcomes, I worked for 7 years in Sydney, and was the only Kiwi in amongst a staff of 70, mostly Aussies :)

In a pathetic attempt to try and make this post at least a small part on topic, i'm still backin' the Boks

Yes - so am I.

Easily I should add.

No you called him an "arrogant, smug, pompous ass". That's personal, it's not about how he coaches, plays or even administers.

I'm no apologist, just interested in why you can't apply rugby criticisms and have to make it personal. But I've just read your an Aucklander so no need to reply. You obviously still dark on how many times his team made yours look amateur.

I can apply rugby criticisms.

I just faily to see why I am (apparently) not allowed to have some personal opinoins of my own, either. Surely we all have that on any player, coach, trianer, ref etc.

But why not Deans? I'm guessing Bok fans are not allowed to hate on PDV too?

Try telling them that!

Oh, and I love how mentioning that the Blues/Auckland getting hammered by the Crusaders/Canterbury is supposed to hurt.

I think it's pretty common knowledge, mate. :p

Lol and keep hating on Aucklanders.
he'd call you a JAFA :p
Mate, I'd PROUDLY call myself a JAFA. :p

I'm sure someone else such as yourself coming from a (proper) city/civilization (Melbourne - even more so than Auckland I might add) would be proud to have such things as electricity, cars, thumbs, women...

Hey Admartian, i'm sorry for all of the fall out that my initial question to you has caused ... yes, i'm from the crusaders region, yes I enjoy the rivalry with Auckland, but anything i've said is in jest

... happy to trade posts with you without resorting to the JAFA stuff ... LOL ... evenif you are from the dark side :D

Hey, no worries.

I'm pretty lax about these "tense internet situations". I don't tend to take it so seriously to resort to insults and the like (unless they're in jest :)).

Personally, I don't mind name calling, so long as it comes from the right place. :)

I can't remember telling anyone they couldn't have an opinion. I just wanted know if you knew him personally and had some reason for attacking him personally or whether you were just full of ****.
