Squads And Player Ratings

i did already mention that there were a few players that i would have to pair back a little bit, although in all honesty, Hook is least likely to be one of them. i'd only take him down to a 92 minimum.

1. Gethin Jenkins 86
2. Matthew Rees 77
3. Adam Jones 84
4. Bradley Davies 74

11. Shane Williams 91
12. Gavin Henson 80
13. Jamie Roberts 83
14. George North 81
15. Lee Byrne 78

My opinion of what a welsh team should look like, I didnt do the full 30 men roster obviously, but this is where I would stand with these players.

I have to say, if it was up to the welsh to rate the teams, Wales would be unstoppable.;)
@bencedars - J Hook 94. Hahahaha

Leaving it up to anyone from their country to rate their players is pointless imo.. as you mentioned some Wales players are a bit high but then the English one posted by hobsonm with hartley and youngs at 90 is too high.. Dan cole at 89 is too high (considering Adam jones is a better tight head and should be around 86-88 imo)same with courtney lawes being a 89 he isnt that high imo more 84-85 at most

... Way overrated.
I tried to rate my Welsh squad like Rugby 08/FIFA (mostly midrange, few high players)

Well if your actually thinking of Fifas stats for players, then remember that Real Madrids average score for players is 81-86, with Ronaldo up at (92 I believe?)

If you factor that in, then 90% of the welsh team is going to be ranked in the late-70s + mid- 80s

If you ask me... (Which nobody did) Derived from Thomond2006's list, in case you couldn't tell.

IMPACT PLAYERS

New Zealand: McCaw, Carter, Nonu, Williams, Reed
Australia: Pocock, Genia, Cooper, Beale
SA: Matfield, Morné Steyn, du Preez

Ireland: O'Connell, O'Driscoll, Bowe
England: Croft, Flood, Youngs
Wales: Hook, Shane Williams, Adam Jones
Scotland: Gray
France: Harinordoquy, Trinh-Duc, Medard
Italy: Parisse

Argentina: JM Fernandez Lobbe, Henandez (If he's fit)
Samoa: Mapasua

Some players, such as Adam Jones, have been added for one outstanding atribute, in this case, his scrummaging. He has a huge impact on the game, but not every time he touches the ball.

Will there be impact players?
I kind of hope not, it takes away from the game TBH.

I want the RWC game to be an arcadey experience, to be a fun, flowing game. Not only is it what I prefer, having two deadly-serious Rugby games would be somewhat of an overkill, having one of each style would be nice. As such, I hope we see Impact Players, although the star above their head can go.

Thank goodness no one on this site are rating the players...I know everyone wants their country to look good and all but these ratings are way too high!

I thought my assesment of Samoa was pretty fair and not too high but eh....What would your country ratings be?

28. Paddy Wallace (78)
29. Luke Fitzgerald (77)
30. Felix Jones (79)

More arbitrary really rather than based on any formulae (e.g., a winger with good speed but relatively poor handling still ranks highly in '08)

What I hope this conveys is good strength in depth in the back-row, a decent first choice front-five, some decidedly average scrumhalves, and a back-line that can *click*. It's also my punt at the World Cup squad, though I can still feasibly see Hayes(75), Leamy(77), Murray(79), McFadden(80) and G Murphy(80) making the cut.

Points:
  • RWC 2011 consists of international sides, so players will be rated as internationals. As much as I rate a Sean O'Brien, he has yet to establish himself as a truly dominant force at Test-level. He ain't a 90-nothin'!
  • I'd have it in my mind that a 75+ rating constitutes Test-level status; no apologies to Mr. Buckley.
  • The Northern Hemisphere, with fewer exceptions than most will admit, does not boast an outstanding hooker. This is to say I rate Rory Best highly in the Six Nations.
  • If 'Team Chemistry' were an option, I would have O'Callaghan-O'Connell, the Irish back-row (excluding Jennings) and D'Arcy-O'Driscoll light up. Perhaps Stringer-O'Gara, for nostalgic purposes.
  • I would prefer that attributes determine a player's utility instead of the 'Impact Player' insignia.
  • Given all that, I'm still waiving doubt with some of my ratings; Kearney (injury and prior-form), Flannery (injury), Ryan (Test inexperience) and Jones (uncapped).

As to previous squads, whichever Welshmen not rating Bradley Davies as amongst their top players need a re-introduction to the game. He's a future Lion on his form over the last two seasons.

Anyway, it all amounts to codswallop without a full breakdown of attributes.

absolutely agree to be honest with you. He carries the ball well, is efficient in set piece play and is worth his weight.

Im mainly talking about those who hand out mid 90's to players who dont deserve it. I think my team is fair

Based on 'my' Pumas line-up:

15. Lucas González Amorosino: 83 (incredible runner and great finisher, not so good when defending, can also play winger)
14. Gonzalo Camacho: 80 (really strong for a winger, little bit like Sackey, can also play outside centre)
13. Marcelo Bosch: 83 (good line breaks, good tackles and always very aware, can also play fly-half and fullback)
12. Santiago Fernández: 77 (maybe a bit boring with the ball in hand, but reliable centre, strong tackler, can also play fly-half)
11. Martín Bustos Moyano: 79 (best kicker around at the moment, not slow at all)
10. Juan Martín Hernández: 87 (last time I saw him play: RWC 2007, can also play fullback and inside centre)
9. Alfredo Lalanne: 80 (tough choice, but he's my favourite scrummie)

8. Juan Martín Fernández Lobbe: 88 (not as fast as I'd like, but still awesome eightman)
7. Julio Farías Cabello: 81 (slow and tall enough to play lock, really good tackler)
6. Genaro Fessia: 80 (great at turnovers and very strong for a flanker)
5. Patricio Albacete: 87 (tall, heavy and strong, what else do you need for a world class lock?)
4. Mariano Galarza: 83 (ditto, only five years younger and two inches taller)
3. Juan Figallo: 79 (a bit small for tighthead, but still, excellent prop)
2. Agustín Creevy: 87 (best ball carrier this country ever had, former eightman and very fast on the loose)
1. Marcos Ayerza: 84 (Leicester fans, help me with this one, great scrummager and hard to stop when carrying the ball, anything else?)

16. Eusebio Guiñazú: 77 (he's fat, slow and can play tighthead, loosehead and hooker... nice)
17. Rodrigo Roncero: 83 (always getting into fights, conceding penalties or arguing with the ref, but always a nightmare at the scrum and tackling hard)
18. Manuel Carizza: 77 (not a bad lock, but way too slow and never shows up too much)
19. Juan Manuel Leguizamón: 84 (very fast for a flanker, great tackling and has an eye for scoring, but also commits plenty of penalties, so he wouldn't be my first choice to complete the back row)
20. Agustín Figuerola: 79 (likes to get involved in the attack, but not a complete scrum-half like Lalanne)
21. Nicolás Sánchez: 83 (great playmaker and line breaker, can also play inside centre, only one cap)
22. Horacio Agulla: 82 (fast and strong runner, can also play fullback but I think he lacks some field vision)
[23. Martín Scelzo: 80 (big and strong tighthead, but grows tired quickly]

I reckon this would be a really good Pumas team (we could fight the 3rd spot again, I guess), but since we have the worst coach in Argentinean rugby history (Santiago Phelan, the Antichrist), I guess overall team rating would be 75-80 (in our best days). Sorry for making it such a long post, it was supposed to be only numbers, right?

And this would be my top ten:

1. NZ: 94
2. AUS: 91
3. RSA: 90
4. FRA - 88 (even if they're the most inconsistent team on the planet)
5. ENG - 86
6. IRE - 85
7. WAL - 83
8. ARG - 82 (I can't moan enough about our coach, if we had a decent one we would easily be an 85, maybe more)
9. SCO - 81
10. ITA - 78

Little changes I would make, and imo, Argentina are a strong contender in this years RWC, and I reckon they will be in the Semi-Finals. Hell, better than most of the Euro teams. Quite like a good version of Italy.
