The relegation run-in

£15k fine and five point deduction upheld for London Welsh - 5pt deduction for next season removed.

A small pyrhicc victory for Welsh in that appeal then. Going to be tough now, that narrow loss last week is heartbreaking if you want to see them stay up. Still is a slight chance, I'd say about 80% for Sale to stay and 20% for Welsh.

A three point draw for Sale this weekend against Irish while Bath beat Welsh fairly comfortably(after a close first 50 minutes). Not looking good at all now for Welsh with an eight point gap even though they have the easier schedule they'll have to win their final two games against Irish and Wuss and hope to maybe pick up a point against Saints, while Sale would have to do very poorly in all three games a BP or two and the Sharks should be safe. My odds 95% for Sale to stay 5% Welsh.

Sale play Gloucester (H), Northampton (A) and Wasps (H).

Welsh play Northampton (H), Irish (A) and Wuss (H).

Also, an 8 point gap means that Sale have put themselves ahead even if Welsh hadn't got the deduction. If Welsh go down, I hope it is by more than 5 points, so that there aren't any lingering 'what ifs'.

Apparently Welsh are now taking every man and his dog to court over the fine/points - wouldn't surprise me if they tried to get some points added on to their total for emotional distress

If I were them, I'd be saving money to bolster the squad for another Premiership push. Newcastle will go up. Bristol are looking strong for next season, but they won't run away with it. Welsh have a good shot at coming straight back up, but shouldn't be wasting money on court battles.

Sale pretty much safe now with the five point win over Gloucester, in fact they've moved ahead of Irish(who have a game in hand) by one. Virtually impossible for Welsh now, they need at least 12 points to even catch Irish, so will have to win all three games left(or a three point draw combined with huge bonus point wins) with a couple of these likely to have to be five pointers. While Irish and/or Sale would have to go virtually pointless. Could be over this weekend with a loss to the Saints.

Chances for staying up will then go to whether a Championship team that can't be promoted wins that league. Newcastle should be heavy favourites and they can come up as can 2nd place Nottingham, Leeds can also come up who are currently 4th as can Bristol who are 5th. So it looks like Welsh will have to cheer for Bedford who are currently 3rd to pull it out of the hat for them, the Blues aren't a bad side but I don't think the odds are strong on it. I really can't put the odds of Welsh being in the Premiership next season even at 1%. Though at least they have the consolation of not starting next season down 5 points with that partial appeal victory.

Despite Irish's hammering today, Welsh MUST get at least two points out of tommorow's game vs. the Saints to stay even mathematically alive.

like what you said sale are pretty much safe now after there win against Gloucester and who else apart from Newcastle has the ground facilities to come up to the premiship without having to wait months to find out if there going up or not?

Newcastle, Nottingham, Leeds and Bristol are the only clubs, that I know of, whose grounds comply to the RFU rules and regs. So hopefully we should have a clean promotion/relegation this time.

Also hopefully its us who come up and get back to where we belong. Lower-mid table of the prem.

well as i recall Newcastle is on like a 20 win streak within the league so unless they mega mess up looks like Bristol may have to come up next year

could happen but welsh would have a slight advantage next season in the championship as they have preimiship experience

Yep, depends on who they keep hold of. Some will leave to balance the books as if not they will suffer. When we missed out on promotion we were £1.5 million short through lack of the money Premiership rugby brings so we basically went into the 2010/2011 season with a team of mainly academy gaduates and second string players.

There are some seriously strong sides in the Championship, its not like when Northampton and Quins walked it, there are 6-8 sides that will challenge. Watch Pirates v Nottingham tomorrow an you'll see their quality

well ino bedford gave falcons a good run for there money. and falcons need to start making signings or they gonna end up back down in the championship. with the loss of gopperth and hudson theres a weak team already the ex captain and one of the highest points scorers to ever be at the club

They already have a very good tram for the Championship. And signing Mike Blair is a very decent start for them in the transfer market. Could do with a boost in the outside backs and the back row though. Joel Hodgson looks a decent prospect at 10.

To be honest, with the Championship strengthening I really think that the Premiership should have 2 teams go up and down like they do in the Top 14. Would add excitement to both leagues, and end the farce of a side who has been top of the league all year playing knockout matches.
