The unofficial RWC awards

Right, the final is a mere 48 hours away. Time to reflect on some of the good and the bad from this year`s tourney. And which better way to do this than with some unofficial awards? So here goes, please feel free to nominate different winners/categories:

Team of the RWC: Argentina, for their superb run all the way to the semi`s. Fiji`s a pretty close second for their awesome performance in making it all the way to the quarters.

Flop of the RWC: Couple of contenders here. NZ and Aus, for leaving on the early plane. Italy, Wales and Ireland for leaving on the very early plane. Hmmm, tough to call, but I`ll probably go for Ireland, as they were considered probable semi-finalist contenders before the tourney started.

Player of the RWC: Still a final to go. At this stage, pretty close between Jonny Wilkinson and Brian Habana. Whoever has the greater influence on the final, should take it.

David award for slapping Goliath: Well both Tonga and Georgia came desperately close. But in the end, Fiji for pulling it off against Wales.

Lazarus award for Rising from the Dead: England, for coming back from their 36-0 drubbing in pool play, advancing to the final with a crack at taking home the bacon.

Bryan Habana award for being faster than a speeding bullet: "Zee" Ngwenya, for taking said Habana on the outside in a brilliant example of outright pace.

Dan Carter dead-eyed dick goalkicking award: Chris Paterson- did this guy actually miss a single kick during this year`s tourney?

Jannie De Beer drop-kick king award: 2 nominees- Juan Martin Hernandez and Jonny Wilkinson. Both still have 1 game to go, and this one`s going down to the wire.

France award for Champagne Rugby: Definately the AB`s. Refusing to go for the drop, wanting to win the game playing the beautiful game. Even though it ended up costing them....

Clive Norling Award for shitest referee in Living History: Wayne. Barnes. End. Of.

Biggest individual player flop award: Pick one of Sebastian Chabal or Dan Carter. Both highly rated, neither delivered when it really mattered. Doesn`t help much when one plays perpetually from the bench, and one played the decisive quarter with an injury, but still.

Chabal didn't flop, he is just ****. Waynes Barnes didn't have a bad RWC, he controlled games well and will do well in the future. One missed pass.

Fiji or Japan should get the France award for Champagne Rugby, NZ vs Scotland was a yawnfest. Fiji played some brilliant rugby, and won, while Japan's tries were awe inspiring.

The 'Cool-Hand Luke' Award for staying-steady-when-the-weight-of-an-entire-nation-is-on-your-shoulders to Onishi, the Japanese kicker who slotted the end-of-the-match conversion to level the scores with the entire Canadian 15 sprinting at him - they nearly got to him. For an extended version of the closing minutes of that game ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5l24jLEA7g...ted&search=

he definitely needs a mention...

Pretty much agree with you, but i'd consider Georgia for team of the WC, and even England (although they got the Lazarus award. PLayer of the RWC: consider Hernandez.
