Transfers 2013/14

Former welsh international Darren Morris (prop) signed to Kuban Krasnodar (Russia) as player/coach

One of my favourite players during his younger days. Injuries decimated much of his career unfortunately, and took away some of his pace, which is what made him so exciting.

Same here, huge fan of his when he was fully fit, was quite sad to see him leave the Blues! Remember there was definitely a first half to a season (possibly 2007-08) where he was completely outplaying Shanklin, and keeping him out of the Blues team, but never got his chance under Gatland.

Tom Brown (Number Eight): Newport Gwent Dragons -> Jersey RFC
Dan Watchurst (Prop): Newport Gwent Dragons -> Retire

Very disappointed to hear about Dan. Promising young prop with a terrible injury run.
Also saw that his 2010 U20 teammate Jack Gadd has retired due to injury.

He was at his best a few years before in the early part of the noughties. He had genuinely blistering pace at that point before an injury ravished few years. He was still pretty quick afterwards, and like you said had a decent spell at one stage, but he was never quite the same. A fully fit Robinson would have been awesome outside of Roberts for the Blues, pity we barely got to see that combination.

The reason he didn't get a chance under Gatland was because he simply was not near the standard of Tom Shanklin. Had a good outside step, but for international rugby he made far too many errors and was inconsistent. Much like his brother in some ways. Parker also kept him out the Wales team too. Been injured lots ever since he left for France.

Contract news from Connacht, including the following departures:

TJ Anderson (backrow, Ealing Trailfinders RFC), Dave Gannon (lock), Eoghan Grace (backrow, Plymouth RFC), Matthew Jarvis (fly-half, Nottingham RFC), James Loxton (fullback), Mike McCarthy (lock, Leinster Rugby), Mark McCrea (winger, Jersey RFC), Dave Moore (scrum-half), Ethienne Reynecke (hooker) , Fetu’u Vainikolo (wing, Exeter Chiefs).

Connacht have recruited really well ahead of next season. Mike McCarthy, Johnny O'Connor and Fetu'u Vainikolo will be missed but the additions of Craig Clarke, Aly Muldowney, Jake Heenan, Craig Ronaldson, Sinoti Sinoti and Fionn Carr more than make up for it. In the past they fell down because beyond the first XV they had rubbish players. Now they're getting closer to having a competitive XXIII.
