Transfers 2013/14

Helu did not play for Timisoara, but for a different Romanian club (Farul Constanta). He's a good player and he has played well for Tonga in last year's November tests and this year's PNC.

Treviso have brought in quite a few players from the Italian Championship:

  • Matteo Ferro
  • Jean François Montauriol
  • Joe Van Niekerk
  • Marco Barbini
  • Edoardo Padovani
  • Tommaso Boni
  • Ornel Gega
  • Mantvydas Tveraga
  • Filippo Giusti
  • Denis Majstorovic
  • Andrea Lovotti

I'm not sure this news fits too well here... but Lee Thomas has announced his retirement because of injury.

Real real shame for the guy, and for Wasps to be honest. Must admit when we picked him up from Lyon I wasn't too sure when he could bring - but he turned out a really excellent find, for us at least.
Hugely powerful in contact, and had the skills, hands, lines to back it up. He was the most reliable place kicker until Stephen Jones became match fit. Maybe as our squad strengthens it would have become increasingly difficult for him to get first team game-time, but last season he was very good.

ja, I saw that as well. Wonder who they'll bring in?- the Cheetahs I mean to replace the son of a pig (Ebersohn).

There are the fringe guys from the Bulls who might follow Sadie a year late in Francois Venter or William Small-Smith who might move back to Bloem. WP's Marcel Brache, Pat Howard and JP du Plessis are all decent centers if very green. A return for Andries Strauss if the Kings fail to remain in SR or otherwise one or two of the Lions centers? Who am I missing? Overseas there are Paul Bosch, Corne Uys and Jaque Fourie.. I wonder what these players' contracts would allow.

Maybe Alwyn Hollenbach seeing as he is from Bloem. To be honest I have no idea who they'll use.

Bristol sign hooker Rupert Freestone on a short term deal.

The hooker – who has been on trial with the Club – previously represented Plymouth Albion in the GKIPA Championship.
Freestone graduated through the Northampton Saints Academy before signing professional terms at Brickfields.
But the 22 year old suffered a broken collar-bone during a cycling accident in 2012 – an injury so severe it could have cost him his life, and almost cost him his playing career.

Ben Jacobs -----> London Wasps

Wasps have signed Ben Jacobs for a second time, two years after he left Wasps to move back to Australia.

The general feeling from talking to fellow wasps fans is that this is an excellent signing; personally I felt he was poor towards the end of the 2011 season, but he was arguably one of our best players prior to that and scored I think 10 tries whilst with us.

Perhaps the more interesting thing in this is that it suggests Elliott Daly is indeed being seen as a future 15 rather than a 13; Southwell is declining rapidly, and Jack Wallace has not been replaced after leaving for Bristol. So its pretty much going to be either Daly, T.Bell or Masi at full-back as far as I can see.
