I'm not going to discuss that but will point out that this isn't consistent and/or relevant with "Ross Byrne did it this year and improved hugely and it was very noticeable." Madigan was probably better than Byrne at equivalent levels of their careers, I wouldn't say the same about Carbery.

I half agree here, I think you either need to be playing there week in week out for your club a la Paddy Jackson or Sexton's development, or you have to be playing a lot of international rugby a la Barrett or McKenzie, Mads and Carbery have kind of been a mix of both which is working ok. Ireland have had better success using the 1st method so that's why Carbery should go to Ulster but had we held on to Jackson and Madigan we'd consider ourselves stacked at 10 because both those players were well on their way to being good internationals. Its worth bearing in mind Madigan was still only 26 at the RWC, similar ages to Hanrahan and Bleyendaal who are still considered to have room to improve, most 10's in this country peak closer to 30, I reckon Mads will tear the prem up.
Ok on 1st bit. I'm not comparing Byrne to Madigan. Yes Madigan was still probably better but that doesn't mean he was up to standard of a top 10. Point on Byrne is as a player he improved.

On 2nd point. They don't have alot of international time though. Alot of caps but equally alot of them were gained when games were done and 10mins here or there or in games vs Tier 2.
On comment re Hanrahan or Blenyendaal. JJ will never reach potential for same reason as Madigan and that is evident clearly. Tyler won't due to injury and not having body. And was said by many in his good season that he is still well off level required. I'd disagree with that last bit.

Maybe Madigan will tear Prem up as he is playing as a 10 but at same level he will not reach a level he could have reached. As I said he maybe at some stage could have reached international level. But best he has been as a 10 was mid European level. Issue has been Keatley and co are under that.
Joey has a high ceiling now but that ceiling can drop too.
I'm not saying Ulster will work but we need to know is he capable of leading a team at 10 and being the standard.

It's like this. In RWC15. Sexton was level 95/100 As a 10. Next best was Madigan at 65-70 at best. He had potential to be higher as 10 but for various reasons never reached it. Joey is at 70/75 now. In next year that could rise or drop. Schmidt has learnt you need back up guy at 80ish at least and used to pressure in 10 jersey

Indo saying it'll be a year loan anyway.

We'll be a lot weaker next season, no Isa, Carbery or Jordi means a lot less backrow, back three Out Half depth and straight up insufficient 12 depth. A Saffa 2nd 5/8th would be handy if there are any going, obviously the antipodeans are out of bounds.

I presume another 10 will be brought in or else Harry Byrne will play too. Argument is Leinster were hit at international windows anyway. Risk is if Sexton goes down for European campaign. Also Leinster are tied to SA NIQ too due to Lowe/Fardy and rules regarding that.

On side note. I've heard Sexton plans on retiring at end of season after next. And that it is very much out there now. After RWC he will retire from Ireland.

Anything in TRP today?. I know it looks like Latu and Olmstead are leaving us Falcons at the end of the season.

My feeling is Symons to Quins, Eastmond to Sale and Doran to Gloucester

Yeah Wasps forum consensus was that Symons to Quins is a done deal and Macken to Bristol is too.

Eastmond is an odd one ... Sale well touted but heard Lyon too, especially as unlikely to have a way back into England squad.
Doran haven't heard anything about... Has looked below par when he has played for Wasps, maybe Ealing/Bristol to snap him up? Irish?

I don't know where he lives. Whether he moved to Coventry or stayed in the Home Counties will probably influence his decision.

Eastmond is a shame. Such a skilful player and elusive but has seemed to have fizzled out in the last few years, I expect it’s down to his attitude.

Eastmond is an odd one... after such success at the start seems to have fizzled out through injuries or occasional bans...

His attitude has often been hinted at and his wage demands too.
