Transfers rumours

Blackadder gets a pass on his first 2 years at Bath trying to deal with unprecedented levels of injuries each week, but still reaching the HC. This year however, he's had most of his players available, and simply failed to deliver.

Maybe better for the Barf thread, but Watson, Joseph and Faletau would be massive losses for any team. Not to mention Obano. But then every team has to cope with injuries.

True, though 3 of those 4 were known for a good long time to allow planning around, and better 4 stars, than 24 of the last 2 years (usually including at least half the first XV).

This season, he's had consistency of selection; but still lacks consistency of performance / game plan, and even motivation.

Josh McNally to Bath?

Does this mean we want a lock/backrow player and are looking at both McNally AND Williams? or have we essentially signed both?
If we get all the forwards we're currently rumoured to have secured ahead of Jan 1st (Boyce, Judge, Stuart, Williams, McNally) - then surely that's us done in the transfer market up front; and it's just those halfbacks we're waiting on - which in turn would confirm that Ewels and Stooke will be our leading pair in the row - they're fine; but that leaves me a little nervous that the next 3 locks would all be hybrid players.

Suspect they both are coming.
Charteris + Attwood + Grant for McNally and Williams.
Would be interesting signings.

Decent versatility BUT neither are exactly out and out lineout leading locks.

That's my suspicion too - just seems a little early yet for Ewels & Stooke to be undisputed starters; and I'd want a specialist bench option, rather than Garvey/Williams/McNally/Douglas.

Of course, it's still perfectly plausible that we get both; lose a specialist backrow, and gain a specialist lock - though I think Bladders just likes mobile locks who can do a job in the backrow when necessary.

Let's swap Grant for Slater, and call it quits there for transfers in the pack :D

Noel Reid being linked to Leicester Tigers

@The Alpha Bro @Leinster Fan @big ginger 8 @Other Leinster fans and lesser Irish teams fans.

Who is Noel Reid?
He gets a lot of stick but he's a really good player. Used to play 10 so he has a strong kicking game and is a quality distributor. The knock on him has been his defence but he's played well this season.

He'd be ideally suited to a regular starting role with a lower table Premiership side where he'll start regularly. Tigers are perfect.

There was a reason why I didn't @ you, you know.....

Is Blackadder at Bath next season, bit of a worry if he is making the signings for next season isn't it?

Yeah, I really like Reid. A solid 2nd 5/8th that is good for the league and European group stages. He's not going to change the squad a huge amount but you won't pay much for him.

I'd rather he stayed though.

Yes.
Why would it be worrying that next season's DoR is making signings for next season?
For that matter, even if he was off this summer; who else should be making those signings? Not making any signings, to give the incoming DoR a free reign, simply means stagnation, and a (very) limited market - which handicapped Bladders when he arrived; with a small squad, money to spend, and no-one available to spend it on - hence lots of overpriced signings who knew they had us over a barrel in negotiations.

ok I thought he wasn't here next season.
If he was off shouldn't Hooper be the one calling the shots was my feeling.

It's pretty much already been said, he's a decent 12 who has can cover 10 as well. He gets slagged off a lot because he spends a lot of time holding younger players hands in minor Pro14 games but he's a good player. Excellent passer in particular.

He won't make big carries or anything but if you can get past that and the odd missed tackle he generally makes a positive contribution to a game. He's more than good enough to play in Heineken Cup games. He's in great form right now and was very good against Bath on Saturday. He'd wouldn't revolutionise your back line but he'd be a decent addition to your squad.

You're a year out; possibly 2. It's also only planned / intended; not written in stone.
But you are right that if it was that planned swap, with promotion from within, then it'd be the new guy heading up the recruitment. I'm also pretty sure they're both on the same hymn sheet for current recruitment too.

fissler saying Dan du Preez has signed for tigers next season.
The other two brothers been offered long term deals at Sale.

Makes sense: we only have one flyhalf (I rate Wilkinson but he's 18 and isn't at the 2nd choice flyhalf level yet, and Sam James isn't a 10)
I expect Strauss to leave at the end of the season and wouldn't be surprised to see Beaumont go (there was talk at a pre-season event that we're losing another big academy name this season)

Also we've offered Faf a very long term deal (4 years, starting from the end of this - so essentially a new 3 year deal and a payrise for the final year of his current) - apparently close to being a "done deal"

Beaumont to Tigers to play number 8 hopefully.
Should've happened before his last contract renewal, and he prob wishes it had, he's just never a lock.

Rob du Preez has been excellent for you IMO, given his limited time.

Lock is what he wants, we always wanted him at 8

I blame EJ, he planted the idea in Beaumonts head that his only chance for England was at lock
