Scotland going for a 16th consecutive loss in this tournament, but they couldn't pull it off.



Looks like 20 of the 23 players were domestic product so even though the match was apparently a stinker this is a major moment in Scottish rugby. The relieved joy at the end kind of said it all. Happy to give some plaudits to the SRU youth development bods from the past 5-10 years.

Seemed a reasonable losing performance from Italy. Nice to see they are continuing. No need to predict a downturn from them yet just because they may end the tournament winless. As long as they are competitive I'd like to think their union can close the gap on the others at a senior level.

So Scotland significantly increase the number of imported players in the squad and get absolutely horsed. At the start of the tournament I would have expected the opposite. I mean, surely if you are tapping a player in another country you have grounds to think they are an upgrade.

One game means I cannot conclude anything firm, but if we factor in abject performances from recent years I think we can start to conclude that the domestic u20s are holding their own and should be given every opportunity before the SRU go raking through the phone directory.

Henry Tuilagi son, 18 years old, 6ft 4 and 23 stone
Already has two starts in the Top 14, starting for USAP in their recents wins v Bayonne and Pau which for a 18 year old lock is crazy.

Granted 23 stone at 18 is insane.
