Trump now threatening to withhold funding from New York if Mamdani becomes mayor and doesn't do "the right thing", ie what Trump wants. No doubt the usual suspects will make excuses for this action. The states rights, small, local government lot are completely quiet as usual, almost like they didn't actually believe anything they said.

Actually on board here, its a baseless threat, using federal funds to pre emptively threatening mayor's is the opposite of small government.

The proof will be in the pudding.

as much as i disagree with it....i can see the counter argument being "freedom of speech, not freedom of consequence", theyre not stopping people saying things, just removing the gift of entry if they dont like what people have said
Freedom of speech init.

I remember DH and Chicago praising Trump and Vance saying we had no freedom of speech init Europe.……….. pair of numpties
You can tag me if you want to run your mouth and strawman my argument.

International students are not citizens. They are not granted the rights of citizens. They are guests.

If you want to come to our universities, follow our rules. If not, go somewhere else.

The concept of the Citizen is completely lost within this board. When I lived in Europe, I knew I was a guest. I didn't act like an idiot. I didn't expect to be treated the same as the local citizenry. It's common sense.

What the orange-utan threatening a Ugandan born Muslim? Never

And just watch the second a Democrat is in office, they will suddenly change their tune. It's one of the most partisan supreme courts ever. I can't think of another court that has reversed so much precedent to give the president more power and protection in history.
I genuinely have never met a human being who is so confidently wrong about America. It's almost comical at this point.

"One of the most partisan Supreme Courts ever"; LOL. You should read a bit about courts from 1870-1958.

Shame the first amendment doesn't actually mention citizens.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Coming back to this board every few weeks to read the "analysis" from the peanut gallery is amusing. All weekend, I read various opinions on the 3 major rulings from notable legal scholars, plus the LA redistricting case that got pushed to next term. Some strong arguments. Others less so. All had opinions about the immediate impact and a longer-term projection.

Then we have English Arrogance on full display with @Ragey Erasmus piping up about 1.) A country he doesn't understand. 2.) An institution he doesn't understand. 3.) A profession he doesn't understand. 4.) Legal cases he doesn't understand. 5.) And the Judicial impact based on the case for the rest of the district/appellate courts.

Name any decision where Thomas/Alito have not voted for the hard right stance.

Ah that chirpy twat still going on? Guess he doesn't realise that the US law and Constitutional protections apply to all people under the jurisdiction of the USA, not just citizens. That includes even tourists. The only protection that applies solely to citizens is the right to vote and run for office. Perhaps he also thinks that any non-citizen in the USA can be arrested at will and imprisoned for life without trial too.

Im confused by this comment, id love an expansion.

Is the claim, that because the US vets social media, the UK has free speach now?

Sooo, a Republican representative had an ectopic pregnancy (an embryo implanted outside the womb) which was life threatening. She attempted to have an abortion but doctors were unwilling due to the draconian laws in Florida which put doctors in all sorts of legal jeopardy for carrying out abortions. Eventually she was able to convince them to carry it out and survived ok (she was just barely within the legal time limit and there is enough of a grey area that her conditions isn't explicitly forbidden).

Does she then say how lucky it is she could have an abortion and the laws should be at least clarified if not relaxed? Nope, she denies she even had an abortion, sponsors an anti-abortion bill and blames the left wing for doctors being afraid to act due to laws passed by Republicans.

How the **** do you ever have any sort of reasoned discourse with someone so partisan and so detached from reality that they will continue to stick to the same position, even when it almost cost them their life?
