For me to be the 'best in the world' (or 'second best in the world') you need to be the best player on the international stage, therefore I have difficulty giving this title to the likes of Evans or Cruden. Cruden was by far the best 10 in Super Rugby last season in my opinion, but didn't really get that many chances at international level. I can't comment on Evans club form, but again I find it difficult to compare club form to players form in test matches.

So, ummm... not really sure who to vote for. Maybe I will go for Sexton...

Evans isn't being assessed on international form because he's not in a position where he can be... That being said, he seems to have improved since heading overseas in 2007, when he was arguably the second best flyhalf in the world anyway. But yes, it's hard to compare international and club form.

I was tempted to include Biggar, but I didn't think anyone would really vote for him. I can actually see people making (bad) arguments for Michalak etc., but not so for Biggar. Not because he's worse than the others, but simply because no one is fanatical about him.

Pfft, I voted 'Someone else' and by 'Someone else' I meant 'Dan The Man'.

Whether he is actually better than, say, Cruden is debatable (Which is the point in this thread), but he is a more mature player with a better all-round game. I'm also a big fan of Trinh-Duc. When he's playing well, he has that Carter-esque gliding quality, able to find and create space at ease, all whilst running a superb tactical game. The difference for me is that even when Biggar is playing badly, he can do one of those things. Cooper, Wilkinson, Lambie & Sexton can't. I'm yet to see Cruden have a run of bad games, however, so it's hard to compare.

If Sexton is honestly considered the second-best international standoff, I don't know what that says.
Lambie is certainly fighting Cruden and Wilkinson for form standoff. :D

It says the standard of stand-off is pretty low at the moment. Which it is!

I do not see why saying Sexton's the second best in the world would mean that the standards low. I think there's a number of excellent 10's.

Draggs, form is temporary class is permanent. :p
