A Political Thread pt. 2

I told you Putin was evil. Remember. He's still got his old KGB mentality. I think the only way to get rid of him is to send Trump over to Russia to kiss his ass like he used to do, and then slip a poisonous suppository up there between kisses.
You know I was always somewhere "between" different positions, there were some things I liked and some things I hated...I know a bit more about Donbass and how it's all started from my friends, acquaintances and from those who have relatives there. Donbass was suffering (ordinary people) those 8 years from bombings and blocking and yes, the West didn't really know about that..I had a pity for those people, but couldn't really support sponsoring separatists because it was still Ukrainian territory. When all that "independence" thing started,I thought it could stop there. I thought it could stop bombings, suffering and pain of ordinary people in Donbass. Instead, this crazy man decided to bomb Kyiv. KYIV. "Mother of Rus' cities" ,holy place for Slavic people..and now I'm scared for my relatives who live far from Donbass and don't deserve anything bad ,and never did anything bad against Eastern Ukrainians.
Now lots of other innocent people suffer for nothing and I'm in a deep depression because of this ****. I hope he'll go to hell.

Got to remember Putin is nothing but a crime lord. That's why he has his Chechen buddies kill squads involved. I know this will hit everyone in the UK financially but at least we are not having to leave our homes or fight a foreign invasion

Chechens? FFS
I don't know if it's not a fake, there are too many fakes now,but I read it in different articles and heard from different friends today. He's a complete scum if so. Although even without it he's soulless.. doesn't really change anything. I don't know what it'll be and how everything will end up.. scared to wake up in the morning and read news and messages from friends and relatives. It's like an endless nightmare

Do your dogs value your opinion?
Only when it confirms their pre-existing bias - so much like here then

Which means meal times, walkies times, play times, and perennial discussions about who's a good boy/girl.
Rarely when it's an hour before meal times, or bath time etc etc

I think it's clear Ukraine was stretched so thinly it left Kiev a bit exposed and Russia took an opportunist look to see if they could quickly assassinate the political class (plus the hit to Ukraine morale of Russian tanks in the capital). Apparently there is a lull there just now after Ukraine shoring up defences there (presumably by drawing back forces from elsewhere).

Very difficult to get decent information on the actual conflict. Al Jazeera channel seems to be the best of a bad bunch in the UK. But overall a complete absence of maps and description of hotpsot areas. Rumours Ukraine may have apparently lost control the coastal Donetsk city of Mariupol (450,000 pop), but have shot down around 200 paratroopers in two planes.

The strength of the Russian encirclement of the country and air superiority is that they can apply different levels of pressure in different places at different times. If Ukraine heads out into the open to reinforce a different front they can be picked off from the air. While Ukraine air defences remain active there is a flicker of hope. If Kiev stands and Ukraine can maintain a re-supply route via the east and west of the country then there is hope.

The conflict must last long enough for internal disquiet within Moscow in terms of any strategy to completely conquer Ukraine or even the Baltics. Delays must also hit morale in the Russian military, elements of which must surely be thinking to themselves WTF, especially if there is any communication with relatives back home who are accessing the internet and can bypass the Russian media that has been talking solidly for 48hrs about a mortar shell that allegedly hit an empty school in separatist Donbas and seemingly saying little about any fighting outside of Donbas.

Zelensky doing very well to continue showing he is in Kiev and counter any rumours of low morale or surrender. Striking the right tone of calm and determination. The Ukrainian military is proving to be far from a shambles. The longer Kyiv and Kharkiv (key historic city in the East where Russian speaking is prevalent but they clearly don't like Putin) can hold there is hope. I am praying that the 72hr blitzkrieg has stalled and forces serious consideration in the Kremlin to negotiate.

The absurdity of this particular war in one video. An older man dressing down a couple of young Russian soldiers at a checkpoint. Reported translation includes:

"We are all Slavs brothers. I am also Russian but I live with THIS government. You have your own government. What, you guys don't have your own troubles? Puppets. Ugh, what the f*** are you guys doing?"

The body language of the soldiers is telling. I think many will be grappling with their conscience already.

The one thing I don't get is how Moscow thinks the Ukrainian people will for years to come peacefully tolerate and accept a pro Russian puppet prime minister in Kiev. Fair enough in the two newly declared independent states in the eastern part of Ukraine where a good chunk of the population are pro Russian but the rest of Ukraine's pro European population (which represents the vast majority) surely won't support a pro Russian puppet leader especially if Russia are blamed for the invasion and loss of Ukrainian life.

I also wonder how Angela Merkel is feeling knowing that Germany's large dependency on Russian gas is proving to be a major factor in this crisis. This is proving to be major error and will be a big blemish on her legacy.
