USA news & politics

If Trump is stupid, what is the Democratic Party? What is the corporate media? What is the interconnected network of non-profits, universities, and NGOs funded by left-wing donors?

How would you rate their intelligence?
Are you asking me to compare the intelligence of an individual to organisations that have thousands of people in it?

I have a lot of beef with Starmer during his leadership and I dont think hes the smartest politically.

However if I were to put
A) A decorated lawyer principally in human rights working in abolishing the death penalty in other countires and advising Northen Irish policing on human rights in the wake of the Good Friday Agreement. Becoming a Queens Council they donts give those out unless to unqualified MPs. (His legal career before 40 makes his Premiership baffling in some areas). Became DPSS saw over the Stephen Larence Case. Oversaw Operation Yewtree in the wake of the Saville scandal...by the age of 51.

B) A guy who bankrupted a Casino.

Id place a high bet on whos smarter.

Let's do a straight comparison then.

Which collective group is more intelligent: British or Americans.

And how are you measuring it?
I think it’s a lot harder to gauge the intelligence of a big group of people than it is an individual so I don’t think I could give you an answer. If you pushed me I’d probably say roughly the same.

It's funny because I think Harry generally has a point about billionaires not being complete morons and tend to have half a brain but Trump is a special individual.
Different kinds of intelligence though isn't there? Just because you can make the most of a business opportunity doesn't mean you have any emotional intelligence or you know the best solution for a complicated problem involving history or Geopolitics.

Elon Musk is a great example. Managed to get Tesla to a trillion dollar company but spends most of his emotional energy talking ******** down his right wing rabbit hole on Twitter while smacking his tits off on Ketamine.

There seems to be this narrative that what countries need is not political leaders but CEOs and given the lack of any real human empathy you have at the head of these organisations why would you want them running your country?

Being rich doesn't make you a good person to lead others

Going back to Tony Blair, who has been a “good person” to lead Britain?

I'm even certain 99% of CEO's are just ******* lucky

I look at the guy at the top of my food chain 3 rungs above me is a guy who is 3 rungs below the CEO and they are similar age. I legitimately couldn't tell you what the makes the guy at the very top so superior to the other guy. And I know the history of the other guy and he's done some impressive things. I even look at my own career over 18 years now and its been stifled by essentially two extremely poor bosses and I only got the opportunity to do what I do now because three managers quit in fast succession creating a gap I slipped into. Its now slightly stagnating again because I don't get on with my current boss and I'm essentially waiting for him to to leave. Which is a fairly typical career for most people (or we'd all the CEO's) but I don't think its down to capability.

Good question. The Cameron/Clegg coalition was good because Labour was done at the time and Clegg was able to keep off the worst aspects of Austerity. 2015 Cameron was on his own with a big majority but resigned shortly after due to Brexit, May was an effect minister but not so good prime minister, Boris? unpopular opinion but he was better than the previous two, leveling up was working until COVID which he handled badly. Truss! Well she's still going round telling everyone she's a genius despite all the evidence to the contrary. Sunack was ok I suppose but he was just keeping the seat warm until the next election and Starmer is a year in but c average so far.

True, you could dedicate a whole thread on a discussion about what intelligence means.

Leaving that aside, though, I’m not even sure trumps business acumen is that great.

Was leveling up working? He was PM for 8 months before lockdowns began I'm unsure we could of seen any impact in that time. The election was 4 months before. He also cocked up Brexit further than May and was a primary instigator of that.

Unsure about Clegg these days.
May just ****** her majority which made he premiership completely inept.

Browns the real one you missed who in hindsight got ****** by America with the subprime mortgages but is widely credited as the leader on the global stage who led the "recovery".

Well I'm an installation engineer not a property tycoon or CEO so I don't know about abut his business acumen, he's certainly rich and knows how to communicate...he's also Teetotal

Having met the bloke he also had the empathy and personality of a pot noodle.
The conversation about when the world leaders met to stop the economy completely collapsing supposedly had Obama go "Guys I think we should listen to Gordon hes got the solution". So this tracks.
One of the last politicians to call a bigot a bigot though. I respect him for that.
But also that were not allowed to call bigots bigots anymore ;)
