A Political Thread pt. 2

Hahaha not the act, the comment.

Its interesting, id like to see some of the decision making, and see how they look at context and history.

Linehan clearly had history, but should that be taken into account when it comes to things like jokes?
Potentially yes but it's kinda case by case, or it should be anyway.

Context and history are important but not as important as intent. I think we can say the intent of this is a joke and even if in bad taste it's a joke nonetheless.

Oh 100%. I would defend a lot worse than this!

But intent is a funny thing, does past history determine the perception of intent.

Im reminded of the Dankula case, in which a judge stated that context didnt matter, and that was a spine chilling moment

Did they not?
Or was it "we take the evidence now, calm the situation, and make arrests later"?

It didn't look like there were many cops there - probably enough to keep a lid on things, but not if shit started getting nasty and arrests were resisted - he says as someone who's never been anywhere near policing.
Not always a numbers game. Idiots are not issued with attitude adjustment tools.

Surprised she lasted the past 24 hours.

Hopefully this will help prove the debate of reforming the house tax system much rumoured in the budget.
Agreed I'm a bit concerned there's talk of going for benefits again. Needs reforming but could cause more issues.

Still not a good look if your looking at taxing home owners etc.

Isn't he laughing at the extreme comment of hanging people upside down on lampposts?

I mean, hanging racists/xenophobes upside down on lampposts might sound like a good idea but it's also stupid and unconducive with the aims of liberalism.

I think it's worthy of a funny rating as it's ridiculous and you could argue makes you no better than thugs going around intimidating people.
Fair, I'd interpreted it as laughing at the mob itself - but on reflection, that looks like my error

I think they were talking reforming stamp duty.
They’ve removed a major relief for multiple dwellings - ie for builders buying up multiple properties and turning them into
Residences. But All they do is tinker with it removing allowances and increase rates especially for 2nd properties to take their cut; different rates for commercial and. Residential. Just can’t see major reform of it even after today.

And talk is cheap. Reeves is in a hole of her own making.

Rumour they might still consider Capital gains, inheritance tax on properties (similar to a farmers type thing) Council tax on more costly properties.

And as mentioned before benefits reforms.
Wouldn't surprise me if they went for one of the big three or a wealth tax.
