USA news & politics

In the UK we named a boat Boaty McBoatface is an open naming vote. People put Jedi as there religeon in a census.

We also get to vote and serve on complex jury cases.

What could possibly go wrong
Fortunately the new rail leaf blower that was named by the public was called Control Alt Deleaf instead of Leafy McLeafface, or Trainy McTrainface. Then again, Leafal Weapon didn't win, which was a huge mistake.

Funny enough I went to a wedding in OKC a few years ago and had a similar impression.

2. & 3.) The dollar is strong right now and with inflation, things got pricey. Going out to eat used to be something people did often. Not anymore.

4) Oklahoma is a very conservative state with a long history of ranching. She was one of many carrying at the wedding.

5.) Southern states don't really have urbanism. Everything takes place in the suburbs. It's not exactly my cup of tea, but for 400k, you can get a big house and a nice yard.

6.) MAGA stuff is not very common. More American flags and other patriotic gear is more common.

5) of course i assumed people would be, was more the fact the woman in a wheelchair who needed help with her knife and fork had one on her lap, really felt like the "right" outweighed the responsibility

6) i realise no one lives in the city, we we were walking around high-rise offices and shops and stuff, on a week day and very few people. Melbourne for example suffered after covid and had under 50% occupancy of office space....but there were still people around. Same with when we needed to kill some time before going to the airport so went to a mall for an hour, grabbed a coffee.....but mid day on a sat the biggest mall in OKC was super quiet

You live in Melbourne? That’s a world class city. The equivalent here is Chicago or LA

And where would you put yourself, serfs?

Er, no.

The USD so far this year (YTD)

Is:

5.76% down against the AUD
7.04% down against the GBP
12.75% down against the EUR
5.65% down against JPY
And
3.02% down against the CAN

All of this means imports from the US are cheaper and imports into the US are more expensive. That's before you add tariffs also in USD.

The opposite of strong.

More extortion if democracy is allowed to win.

This feels like it was crafter with 3 lawyers looking over his shoulder...

Is Mamdani a communist, not currently, but still has communist talking points amongst his democratic socialism.

Will Mamdanis goals require federal funding, yes.

Will a communist have problems with Washington, yes, regardless of president.

Would any president endorse a communist agenda financially, no.

Can Trump refuse funds to a communist request in New York, yes.

Are Mamdanis goals realistic, probably not in a state as big as New York.

I actually quite like some of Mamdanis ideas, but they need to be enacted locally first, build a town and evidence the rewards as it grows, trying to radically change New York in a few years is always going to be a no goer.

It's funny how Trump can, for years upon years, call political opponents fascist and communist yet we don't see the same thing that you say happens to the right when Trump is called a fascist. I wonder why that is?

What do you mean? Republicans have only just in the last few years jumped on the fascist train, communist has been a generic insult in the US for a generation lol.

Your not claiming that Republicansnarent called fascists?

What a minute, are you seriously suggesting that Trump/republicans have only started calling democrats communist in the last few years? Are you sure about that?

Edit: my bad, misread. Yes communist for years and what, 5 years or so since Trump has started calling Dems fascist? Does that sound about right?

Anyone listening to Hegseth address his military leaders?

No fat soldiers. No beards. No long hair. All those Vance wannabe Privates had better start shaving.
