A Political Thread pt. 2

And nonsensical, if the US suddenly withdrew military aid Israel would fall in weeks.
The only weapons withheld from Israel by Biden were 2000lb bombs considered too much for urban use.

Trump immediately released them.

This Republican senator is told that the actions of the Trump administration and the current bill recently passed, which could strip millions of Americans of healthcare coverage and the ability to buy food, could "lead to people dying", she just smirks and says "we are all going to die."

Any more evidence needed what a bunch of heartless ***** these people are? Can you imagine a situation where in a healthy, functioning democracy, an elected officials feels perfectly happy shrugging off the idea that their actions could lead to thousands of deaths with such a response? No attempt to show the slightest bit of concern for the prospect of causing death.

After promising exit polls, and Trzaskowski celebrating a victory, it seems they were a bit over eager, and are now facing a massive loss.

Can the Warsaw count rally and save the day?

Another right wing underdog story in europe, upon Tusks arrival most people believed Dudas presidency was a given flip, and the liberals could finally push through abortion and migration reform...

Maybe the refusing to hold the rainbow flag stunt hurt Trzaskowsky, maybe Trump's endorsement helped, maybe Trzaskowsky pulling a Kier Starmer and flip flopping on his abortion, lgbtq and immigration stances in the last week made voters nervous.

Either way, the extreme right parties were the shock gains of the election, the more extreme parties seem to be gaining traction all over the west scarily.

I'm shocked and refuse to believe it... maybe it was stolen somehow.
I can't believe Rafał Trzaskowski lost, just can't believe it at all, I was for him

They call Trzaskowski liberal, but is he really?
It seems Warsaw couldn't save the day.

Surely though, as the presidential office isn't massively powerful, this just keeps the ljmitationsnof Tusks coalition government?

Was better than this Nawrocki anyway..
Damn I'm really sad. Relaxed yesterday in the evening thinking Trzaskowski finally won, and such a terrible Monday morning now...haha,my Polish colleague also just wrote me she was like "uuuf Rafcio won" in the evening and today saw in shock that "this freak" won 🤣
I was for Trzaskowski even during previous elections but couldn't vote back then, and was almost 100% sure he wins this time..still can't believe. Can't understand who voted for Nawrocki, really

Would this, and the smaller extreme right parties gains, be a similar phenomenon to that of the AFD, NR, Reform etc... Donald Trump affiliations, immigration up front, anti establishment etc?

I thought this election was as much focused on Russia and security than anything else.

I'm surprised, I though Tusk was pretty popular, his abortion and lgbtq stances are popular in Poland too now aren't they? I know there's frustrations he had flip flopped, but Duda would have vetoed anything coming through, not that any of the campaign promises had.

This is a huge shock IMO, he was massive favourite, given 85% of victory on the exit polls, and even celebrated his win!

Where on earth did you get those exit polls from?
Everyone who isn't an argumentative contrarian had exits polls as neck and neck

Trzaskowski is definitely popular (very well educated, good political experience, did a lot as a mayor of Warsaw,pro-EU, speaks fluently French/Russian/English/Italian/Spanish, a very attractive man...ok, last two points are my personal preferences in him but anyway :D , etc). Tusk is rather popular amongst younger generations 25-40 yo (LGBTQ abortion etc stances,as you said).
What about Nawrocki...I don't know his category. Maybe only those elder people from villages and those anti-EU,anti-immigrants and anti-Ukraine

The Guardian live updates last night used oddschecker I think, around 11pm BST as Tzaskwoski was giving his victory speech oddschecker i think they used had him at 50.7 to 49.3, and an 85% chance of victory. As real term numbers trickled in, that changed dramatically. It changed to 50.3 to 40.7 within the hour, and Narwocki soon took the lead.

I appreciate the insult though, classy as ever.

What the **** is left to cut?

Apparently they need to find 55m more than they are getting now or go bust by 2027.

Seems to me that KCC are failing, too little coming in, too much going out, let's see if Reform can save the day, or exasperate the problem

They appear to have been looking to scale back on Libraries and recycling centres before the last elections, which I can't imagine anyone in Kent being happy with.

Infact didn't Hook criticises Goughs running of the council, for wasteful and mismanaged spending? Hahahaha

What a mess these councils are in, I can't imagine Reform are the answer, but there are certainly massive questions to be asked!
