A Political Thread pt. 2

I've had a brief look at his feed, definitely a crank member of the Scottish Unionist party and probably thinks the ERG aren't extreme enough.....
Yeah it's a feed that definitely should not have amassed thousands of followers. I've seen similar with a few hundred max but he appears to have hit the right key of nonsense to get people to listen somehow.

If memory serves correctly it was British soldiers parked on the border during the 60s to the 90s... Holy hell, unionism really finds the worst of them, he goes on to discuss that he's convinced we will see the union of Britain and Ireland in his lifetime, you'd do well to unilaterally impose that again big man.

Christ, reading more and more of his page and it's a cesspit, really focusing on the inaction if the EU while ignoring how the UK have done as much to encourage this in far less justified ways*

Hopefully nwe go back to our apparent old ways and send a hit squad his way, the world's IQ would go up a bit.

*Being in the Russians pocket through shady backing rather than being energy reliant.

Actually made the front page of reddit. The guy looks like an origins story for Zola in Captain America.

Heartening to see such large anti-war protests in Russia last night. Brave thing to do. Sadly won't have any affect in a non-democratic country whose leaders and oligarchs are completely free from any accountability.

Well members of the loyalist community in Northern Ireland are comparing Russia's movement into Ukraine to the Northern Ireland Protocol

A DUP MP has compared the EU’s handling of Northern Ireland in the Brexit process to Vladimir Putin’s annexation of Crimea in Ukraine.

Sammy Wilson accused Brussels of annexing the region through the Irish Sea trading arrangements required under the Northern Ireland Protocol.

“By its pernicious processes EU sovereignty has been established over the trade and economy of Northern Ireland. GB is now regarded under the protocol as a ‘third country’ – the very epitome of our colonisation by the EU.”

Disgusting... The driver did survive. China still refusing to call it an invasion, definitely don't want to be seen to condemn it so they can go waltzing into Taiwan.

Surely that's a war crime of some description?

I know a lot of what they've done could probably be classified as one, but attempting to crush a fleeing civilian to death just for a laugh...?

I'm guessing the guy who said something like the following was immediately kicked from the party: "Maybe trying to compare ourselves to a people whose country is currently being invaded and are being forced to seek refuge or face years of hardship isn't in our best interest Sammy... You know, given the way we annexed Ulster back in the day and the the whole decades of persecution thing?

And disregarding that, the timing just stinks bro."

What the **** are the Ukrainian army doing here?! Sad to say but on all the news clips their uniforms are very clean and they really dont look like they know what they are doing. Little wonder it's taken the Russians 48 hours to take the capital1645787593550.png

Maybe they think their uniforms will clog up the tracks on the tank and disable them?

Yeah seen that and was wondering WTF?

Urban environment, your the defender and you choose literally the worst possible defensive position.

Use the fking cover that's literally all around you.

I know the article I first seen it on said they were regulars, but surely not. Must be some poor bstarts called up in the last couple of weeks.

Looks like the Ukrainian army wasn't ever in a position or had the desire to fight. It was all propaganda in the hope the west would intervene. Got to say Putin has played everyone again

Militarily he might get what he wants, but in the long term it may cause him more trouble than its worth.

It's definitely going to cause the west more trouble re. Taiwan.

Also raises the spectre of just how watertight nato is on article 5.

If the Russians marched into Lithuania or Estonia - are you absolutely 100% sure western politicians would have the stomach for war? I'm not convinced another appeasement or more blatant fold wouldn't happen.

Exactly like in the lead up to WW2...

Sometimes you have to be prepared to draw a line in the sand and stick rigidly to it. People like Putin will never be satisfied. You turn a blind eye once, they take that as proof they can do it again, and again, and again. He'll keep going until he is far more emboldened and we are in a worse position and trying to react. Sometimes people in the west, particularly Europe, have to accept armies aren't just there for show. You must be prepared to use it when required.

I can see NATO and the EU sacrificing the Baltics to Russia.

Surely NATO should be increasing the number of troops on their Eastern European members borders? There has to be some physical response to this even if the message is only along the lines of "well you got away with this one but we won't be so passive next time".

I think now that Putin was genuinely considering an attack on Ireland, which goes to show how weak he thinks the west can be. The Russians were regularly flying in our airspace and then there was their intended missile test. It seems like the same sort of tactic used when surrounding Ukraine altered to a vulnerable island nation.

Fortunately and predictably the UK and French reaction was stern and swift but by God we need to invest in some aircrafts to deter this stuff on our own.
