A Political Thread pt. 2

Apparently the new deal with Rwanda is costing a further £100m according to the BBC. It's starting to get silly now. Valuable taxpayers' money being squandered in the middle of a cost of living crisis all down to a Tory civil war. An election is badly needed to end this madness.

The figures involved are staggering. Estimated 175,000 people awaiting a decision. 6-8 million per day spent on hotels. Which is basically the Rwanda plan a month. A staggering amount being squandered. . Like the social care system it's been left to decline so badly. I'm not convinced anyone has a credible plan to sort it.

The issue is any credible plan to fix a problem of serial neglect will involve a lot of time and money, far more than if it had been maintained to begin with. Any attempt to fix the issues the Tories have created will involve spending money and they will just point and accuse the other side of frivolous spending (a ridiculous accusation given their track record but you know it will happen).

Slight technicality, but apparently the 100m was paid as part of the existing deal not the new deal. Still no reasonable explanation as to why it was paid, but it is not directly linked to the new deal.

The Times reporting that book on Shakespeare Bojo was working on in Feb 2020 and missed 5 Cobra meetings for is unlikely to be ever published because Shakespeare academics won't touch him with a barge pole to give him credit because of Brexit.

That was worth those extra lives lost due to covid then wasn't it Bojo? Bet he still gets to keep the £80k advance though.

A senior UN aid official has warned that half of Gaza's population is starving, as fighting there continues.

Carl Skau, deputy director of the UN World Food Programme, said only a fraction of supplies needed have been able to enter the Strip - and nine out of 10 people cannot eat everyday.

Pretty mental.

Israel giving a lot of fighting words regarding Lebanon. It looks like they have fully embraced gearing up for war against more than just Gaza. Also the fact they have said they will turn Lebanon into Gaza shows they know exactly what they are doing to Gaza. They are also making the "safe" zones ever smaller and you just know what's going to happen, they are going to start full on bombardment of the "safe" zone and say the locals were told to leave but didn't so it's their own fault. Go where exactly? Either they stay or Israel drives them out of the country completely. Forcing millions out the country is a war crime.

Over 18000 dead in Gaza including 7000 children. Absolutely disgusting and yet US and UK politicians continue to sit back, do nothing and portray Israel as the main victim. Israeli hostages get labelled hostages and have a number attached to them while those in Gaza struggling to survive without food, water, medicine etc. come under the heading 'humanitarian crisis'.

Still, as long as Netanyahu gets another term in office. If it was Putin who did this the condemnation from the US and UK would be off the charts.

Joe Biden has issued his harshest words yet on Israel's bombardment of Gaza, warning the government of Benjamin Netanyahu that its indiscriminate bombing of the Palestinian territory was beginning to alienate the international community.

Does this mean Joe Biden is anti-Semitic, based on Netanyahu's comment on any criticism of Israel?

Obviously. Any criticism of Israel is clearly anti-Semitic because Israel represents and speaks for all Jewish people even though it is supposedly a 'secular' state.

Voting going ahead in Rwanda Bill. Watching it live on BBC Parliament.

A collective of rightwing Conservative MPs have announced that they will not support the second reading of Rishi Sunak's bill which aims to overcome legal obstacles in deporting asylum seekers to Rwanda.

The so-called five families – a loose alliance of five different rightwing Tory groups, who claim to represent more than 100 MPs overall – announced their decision as the Commons continued to debate the bill, which will be voted on at about 7pm. The bulk are expected to abstain.

Calling themselves "The Five Families" is just embarrassing

I wonder why the ERG have not renamed themselves since Brexit. Maybe the Tories should renames themselves as The National Affront.

It'll probably scrape through tonight with the can being kicked into the New Year. If the bill gets tightened to humour the right wing then the One Nation group might withdraw their support. A completely divided party.

Tories doing a victory lap as if scraping through another piece of unworkable legislation and attempting to legislate reality is something to be proud of. They are literally try to define Rwanda as a safe country by law and saying that judges are not allowed to have an opinion otherwise...
