Chernobyl why would you do any of that? Dropping a nuke (which Russia can do quite well) would be a far greater precision strike and people would spot you removing the shroud anyway.

Yeah but you could get pretty much the same effect with actual nukes. Its something they could do sure but not one they don't already have a better alternative.

Because after the whole 'peacekeeping' line and 'we're not planning to invade' BS it's the sort of dirty underhand **** they might consider doing or using as leverage. To remove any doubt the west needs to categorically state that any shenanigans or tampering with that site will be viewed in the same light as a chemical attack on the EU.

But that's what it is, if they would ever do it, there's no reason to remove the shroud ever and I'm betting satellite surveillance of the site is extremely high, we'd know almost instantly if they did. I'm not saying they won't do it but considering your committing that level of act of war I'd just assume you wouldn't try any subtefuge about it because nobody would ever belive you because you just removed a thing that should never be removed.

Yeah but they'd come up with some BS like they were doing maintenance work and it was mother nature (wind direction) that did the damage - that's the sort of BS that you're dealing with here. By making a clear statement you're pre-empting their possible actions and making it clear to them what the consequences would be in advance - just like what Putin did yesterday. It would be stronger if the statement came from Biden.

Difference is one is a direct attack, where as the other they can claim it was sabotage or an accident etc...
