It is not a trade war - it is a final resort if diplomatic negotation is unsuccessful. Given that your UK Govts have already spaffed £millions to the French to enforce border control without effect it is logical to conclude that a different approach is required.

To enforce a border you kinda need to have good relationships with other countries. You can’t just go “**** France we’re getting the navy to drop off people on French beaches” as, you know, the French might take some issue with that.

It’s one of the many reasons that having unions and agreements with allies is kinda cool. Keeps us all on the same page as opposed to being at each others throats again.

I for one, can't see any problems that might arise from British warships entering French territorial waters without permission, and having people jump off the deck and wade up the beach.

We have 3. There are two aircraft carriers with no support vessels and there's HMS Dragon wherever that currently is. And people complained about giving up Diego Garcia, we haven't got enough navy to keep Portsmouth busy.

The Leclerc actually has a more rapid firing capability than our Challengers although it's not as heavily armoured. In a relatively confined space I wouldn't want to be on the wrong end of one though

The Leclerc is OK, maintenance is meant to be a nightmare. I prefer the survivability and sniper rifle on tracks aspect of the Challenger.

Germans still the best, and shameful the French haven't given any Leclerc's to the Ukraine

The French didn't really seem to give thought to heavy armour preferring manoeuvrability. We went for big and heavy, the Germans went for everything: firepower, armour and speed.
