May's first major mis-step
I understand the need to keep Boris in the fold, but is their a job he's worse suited to than foreign secretary? At least he's a nice fellow I suppose, but my god foot meet mouth.
I guess May doesn't want to change tack on the junior doctor situation, and it's better for Hunt to take the hit than ruin the reputation of another MP?Being reported Hunt will keep his job....how?

He's really not. Charming maybe, but not nice.
Regardless of whether he's intelligent underneath the veneer of buffoonery, it must be seen as an odd position for him. He has insulted countries and people he now needs to work with.I am surprised as anyone and maybe even shocked! However, to my understanding he is an extremely intelligent guy who did not do a bad job for London?
Sure he portrays himself as a buffoon, sure he has done somethings that most politicians would not, sure he has played the field........!!!
I am not going to jump to conclusions too quickly and am prepared to give him, and May, the benefit of the doubt!
Surely, I hope, she has seen something in him to do a job she wants from him or why would she take such a huge, apparently, risk so early in her administration?
It does give the Remainers and the anti Boris clique something to whinge about though,.....

The only thought I have is that it is some kind of shrewd move to neutralise Boris. Whilst Boris is in the cabinet, he must follow cabinet collective responsibility. Foreign affairs means Boris travelling overseas, where he can't harm May's government. It keeps him in enough not to be a pain to her.
But on the other hand, there's not really a legislative agenda associated with foreign secretary. What Hunt did in health has to be passed by Cameron and Osborne. His mess is as much their mess too. But foreign secretary? There isn't really a clear link. You don't enact much policy - it's more of a glorified diplomat. If Boris acts out of line, it will be more of a reflection on him rather than May. But we are waiting until the day that Boris causes some kind of diplomatic incident which May has to clear up. It could damage Boris' reputation without causing any harm to the government.
I think removing the international trade brief from the foreign secretary portfolio might suggest that May doesn't particularly trust Johnson...
Not how it will work. We will trade, we will just do it with trade tariffs, which means our trade will be weakened with the EU.
The idea we could have limits on EU migration and get to stay in the single-market is bonkers. It implies that the EU will give preferential treatment to the UK over its own member states. It's a complete non-starter.
You don't know how it will work and yes I would expect preferential treatment because they export far more to us than we do to them so again you don't know it's a non starter you are just taking the worst case and saying it will be the norm just like the whole remain campaign really
While that's true, preferential treatment would make it attractive for other countries to leave, too. The EU can't want that at all.
Restricting immigration while still having free access to the common market is difficult at best. Just look at the problems the Swiss have had with that since their referendum. Incidentally, the Leave vote in the UK could make it even more difficult for them.
I mean the same is true of the United States but still they have tariffs. The U.Ks trade with Europe accounts for about 13% of their GDP, but it's only 3% of Europe's GDP.You don't know how it will work and yes I would expect preferential treatment because they export far more to us than we do to them so again you don't know it's a non starter you are just taking the worst case and saying it will be the norm just like the whole remain campaign really

You betcha it's more than 3% for Ireland but countries can't break ranks on this with the E.U. If the E.U as a whole doesn't want that trade with Britain because they don't play ball or for whatever reason, well then unlucky for us, we're part of their economy and the countries that don't like that such as Ireland need to accept it or leave. That's over 27 countries but it's truly only over about 5 and individually it's more than 3% for those countries....bet it's more than 3% for Ireland
Just wanted to put this up as I can't stop laughing.
A lobby group in America made Irish themed ads to pressure congress into lowering the Corp Tax rate and it's...... Well see for yourself

I dunno what's worse. The accent that sounds like someone from Senegal having a stroke or how wrongly they're pulling a pint of Guinness.
No, you are literally saying that the UK will get rights out of the EU, that countries within the EU don't get. It's patently absurd and can be rejected out of hand. Why would they do that? What stops a litany of other countries leaving the EU, wanting the same thing as the UK? It threatens the survival of the EU.You don't know how it will work and yes I would expect preferential treatment because they export far more to us than we do to them so again you don't know it's a non starter you are just taking the worst case and saying it will be the norm just like the whole remain campaign really
I reckon May could have cut a deal with Hunt that if he forces the contracts on the junior doctors, takes the brunt of the vitriol, then she'll move him to another brief in the next re-shuffle and he can get his political career back on track.Hunt the only reason i can think off is that May is letting him fall on his sword and bringing in her person after as hunt has caused a shyt show.
Hahaha they're a funny bunch the lot of them. Love the plastic Paddys. Their idea of Irish is very far from the truth, but a lot of them did proudly grow up in traditional Irish Boroughs, being raised with other people who are proudly Irish American. Who am I to say they're not Irish when their ancestors are probably famine refugees who probably suffered to keep their identity.LOL pretty sure that is how all Irish folk speak.
I like the shove a redheaded girl in there when talking about Female leaders.
TBH i feel a bit for Ireland and it's Irish -american crowd i met a group from Boston (I think) who had such an out dated view of the country and had quite strong beliefs about the country.
Also RE Johnson it depends on how May is wanting foreign minister to go is it basically going to be a London mayor type role with Her, Fox and Davis handling actual business? A Foreign Minister is what the PM wants it to be and TBH the PM will be handling the major stuff anyway.
Johnson acts like an idiot (and is prob to some amazing gaffs) but he is also very intelligent IMO and very very clever at getting what he wants, look at this Gove stabbed him in the back and Johnson played it quiet no doubt positioning himself with the candidate he felt would win behind doors (which is what happened).
It's a shrewd move by May IMO Boris is good at drawing attention and is good at getting support (Brexit might have down it some what) when it comes to politicians not many has his ability to somehow gain support despite countless gaffs (Hell Milliband was laughed at for eating a bacon sarnie).
With a Brexit department Johnson will be kept away from Europe who have the most hate for him.
Hunt the only reason i can think off is that May is letting him fall on his sword and bringing in her person after as hunt has caused a shyt show.
