Antisocial, societal issues thread

I had a neighbour who used to yell and scream waking me up every night between 3 - 5am if I didn't wear ear plugs (they make my ears hurt and tend to cause wax compaction)

It's older than lockdown, though that accelerated it.
Personally, I think it's social media.
You get to broadcast your weirdest thoughts, and the algorithm explitly shows you people agreeing with you, and people you can feel righteous indignation against.
Which isn't social media per second, but is certainly how they all evolved.

Conspiracy theorists have always been with us, but they get an outsized voice.
Self-centredness and superiority complexes (and Dunning-Krugers) have always been with us, but the algorithms turn it all up to 11.

That leads to the likes of the tea party => MAGA, and the UKIP=>Reform, excusing and legitimising our worst impulses.
And the same on the left from "bleeding heart" => "politically correct" => "cancel culture"
Internet and its evolutions has not only made it easier to find conspiracy theories but the participants being from every country has turned the beliefs into a globe-spanning incoherent mess

I swear they strike every 5 years or so. Tbh their jobs must be nearly on the way out due to automation.
It’s an annual thing.
Not so sure about automation. There is on the DLR lines IIRC but all the others are still operated by a driver. No doubt it’ll also lead to more strikes if they are to automate them all.

Less child care issues, no need to go sick, delegate others to do site visits loads of positives to those in the office. Purchase a mouse jiggler and away you go.
My office there was like 10 peeps in today out of a capacity of a good 80-100. Apart from receptionists and admin staff to scan post, there is no need to be in the office 5 days a week.

Waste of time and money.

Where i work there is an element of us and them. All staff come under the same sickness policy etc but it really only impacts those in office or outside roles. It's meant to be the same for all but nobody home working is going sick with a cold, but if your sent home then it goes against your sickness record.

Same with child care issues, the policy states you can't care for children if working but it's not enforced but a person has to get permission to leave if there in office with a child care issue.

I work in and out the office on site visits every day. My team regularly get asked to do site visits for staff who are working from home because 'it's not worth coming in'. Even if it's not are role and it drives me mad.

Thats a very important point, we see this kind of now also.

Office staff and admin get the leniency of working from home when Ill or watching the kids, even pet sitting etc, but project staff are required to work front facing, and need to utilise A/L and sickness days to do similar.

We have staff who work remotely full time in Scotland, Spain and one is even in Nepal but he’s a contractor. Totally get the us v them. If you don’t have a blanket policy or allow WFH it can breed resentment. One rule for one, one rule for another.

At my last place we had a lady who managed to work remotely from Israel after only joining the team 4 months. She managed to be put down as S/e. IIRC she has to report this as UK income on her tax return and pay the UK IT, No NI. but as she’s a returning Jew she’s exempt from tax there for her first 10 years of residence there.

I remember on one visit her telling me she’s never coming back to work in the UK because the child care is so good over there. She’s had 5 boys since.

Having said that it can be good to be in the office and have face to face contact with colleagues. I am in at least 2 days a week. And it’s a nice balance.

File this under "Israel is governed by Jewish supremacists" things

That's a both sides thing i think. The rulers of various places in the region would happily see others wiped from existence.
It's funny how the only Jewish state in existence seems to get a disproportionate amount of attention compared to the dozens of Muslim states who, might I add, largely treat THEIR OWN PEOPLE like ****. But no, the evil Jewish supremacists giving tax breaks to returning Jews (who historically have been persecuted, ethically cleansed and killed for the last 3000 years or so) are the ones that deserve our attention, and vitriol.

In this lady’s case got nothing against her personally she’s just taking advantage of the system encouraging her to pop them out. But She gets to do exactly the same work as a UK resident employee and pay much less tax as a result. But it goes to the unfairness especially as jobs are getting scarcer here (see hospitality figures) and it doesn’t really matter where you’re doing it apart from for tax purposes.

To be honest, given the climate in the UK and in the west generally I can totally understand why more Jews are leaving places like the UK and going where they feel more safe. Tax breaks and stuff still probably act as an incentive as well but I reckon Jews know what time it is, they’ve been here before.
