Aviva Premiership - Round 19

Just watched the highlights of the Quins/Glaws game - looks a cracker!
Quins were robbed of a try (or at least 3pts) when the referee refused to go upstairs for foul play when Brown (I think) was tackled well early, and then Casson picked up the loose ball and went in for a try. Not sure whether the try could've been awarded but definitely a Quins penalty.

He couldn't go upstairs - those are the rules and he did the right thing - although god knows how he missed it, or thought that a Quins hand knocked it forwards.

I thought it was only in the lead up to a try, not in open play - and he blew before try time.

At full back? I'm not so sure if so, I would prefer to see Goode, Brown or Foden instead.

Tait is far too inconsistent

Nope 13! Never found him to be inconsistent tbh. Manu at 12, Tait 13, the two Gloucester wingers and Foden at fullback!

I've just looked it up:
[h=2]Television Match Official[/h]This trial, which has been supported by the RFU’s Laws Sub Committee and the TMO Steering Group, will take place in all matches shown live on either ESPN or Sky Sports, and allow the match referee to refer to the TMO incidents that have led to the scoring of a try at any point from the last stoppage in play. In addition, the TMO will be able to intervene in incidents of foul play.
The full TMO trials are as follows:

  1. TMO may be referred to as per the current application as well as:
  2. When match officials are unsure whether foul play has occurred anywhere on the field or in-goal
  3. When match officials believe there may have been an infringement by the team that scored a try
  4. When match officials believe a try was prevented by an infringement
  5. To confirm the success or otherwise of kicks at goal
I hadn't realised he'd blown before the try, so you're right the try was off but the 3 pts (or scrum, or lineout or whatever) could've been game changing.

I *think* foul play refers only to punching and the like rather than forward passes and early tackles, which are infringements...

I'm pretty sure early tackles count as foul play, forward passes definitely don't though.

Also: Buchanan>Hartley>Gray

Finally get to say - the Glos-Quins game was incredible. My favourite of the season. It's games like those that have me club-over-country.

Kalamafoni has to be on the shortlist for player of the season. He was playing in the Championship last season! And now he seems to be getting MOTM awards every other week. Just wish he could play for England.

Where do you put Youngs?

Must say I'm not thrilled by England's hooker options. Was hoping George would be a contender by now, but Sarries had to go and sign Smit. It's not like they didn't already have the best hooker in the league. If only Brits were English...

Gotta love Shaun Edwards blaming London Irish's crap defence under him on everyone else.

Edwards left: Irish improved, but of course it was the forwards and S&C coaches fault

The last 30mins of that match was complete domination by Leicester.

England please take note: Tuilagi = Great decoy

And surprise, surprise Croft played really well once they were on the front foot.

Thought Croft had a great game from the start as did T Youngs and Parling. Wish B Youngs would stop taking so many steps its getting silly now.

This has got to be one of the worst and most pathetic attempted tackles I have seen. Same player missed the first tackle for the first try as well.

Looks far far worse from the live angle - like he just fell near him rather than get fended and then try the tap tackle.
Was still crap though, and he had a nightmare in defence in that game.
Was great in attack, but two missed tackles cost us 14 points.

Talking of wingers who are poor in defence. It seems Saracens are trying to convince us that Ashton is a good defender. He got a high "Wolfness" rating from them apparently. (http://www.planetrugby.com/story/0,25883,3820_8614878,00.html).

Haha, I suppose after he record-equaled in number of tries in one 6N and generally looked an asset for England a few years back, this is the chance for non-English fans to gloat. :p

I bet that he goes back to being consistently good as soon as he's dropped by England though.
