Conman Smith

i honestly think some of the guys are being a little bit harsh on smith, but however i do agree that mils should play center with 'panadol' at fullback.

i wouldn't mind seeing evans at fullback, his positioning and defense might be sus but i like the way he came on against the scots. His type of play (speed and gile) is suited to the attacking role of the fullback. He wasn't too bad against England in 2004 on his first run on start for the ABs

Where's everyone gone now?

Oh well just to keep it simple:

Centre:

Conrad Smith > Isaia Toeava

Mils Muliaina > Conrad Smith / Isaia Toeava

Fullback:

Mils Muliaina > Leon McDonald

I agree with your formulae. So, what's your centre fullback pairing? [/b][/quote]

Well after reading a few more posts, it has certainly changed my mind. I'll go with Muliaina at centre and Evans at fullback - mentioned by candybum. Your right mate. Evans has never showed any disappointment in me too. I'm starting to think that any 1st five can play fullback. They both show some similarities in the job they do; kicking for touch, running the ball into space and (partially fullback) instructing the back line. Carter used to play fullback I'm sure.

yeah he played fullback for the cantabs couple seasons back only for a few weeks

Not going to happen.

yeah i think its too late to start evans now at fullback. i agree though... he could play there if he took that as his fulltime position.

i really want a specialist centre. the past 2 world cups one of the big reasons weve lost is because weve had makeshift centres(cully and panadol).

im happy to go with safe and secure at centre and let mills work his magic where he plays best... coming from the back...

We need a good defensive center, and the two best are still in new zealand.

Anthony tuitavake

Casey laulala

Casey Laulala has crocodile arms. Meanining his arms get a little sorter when the defence is rushing in his face. He just doesn't have the balls when he's playing on offence. When he does catch it though he does always seem to make the advantage line, and makes those beautiful offloads.

I think the centre really depends who we're playing against and what type of game we are wanting to play. For example, if we have Aaron Mauger playing it would be better to have Toeava at 13 to get some go forward ball.

And if we are playing against a team with a centre like Stirling Mortlock, Smith might be better to make sure he doesnt cause a repeat of this years Tri-nations.

A repeat like say... the Second Bledisoe Cup test where McAlister and Toeava made Giteau non existant and the only way Mortlock gained any postive ground was when he ran sideways and ducked his way through the fowards?

as long as we dont put McAlister at 13. that was a bad mistake by henry putting him there for the melbourne game. hes an outstading 12... hes never been a centre...

Yeah, but to be fair he didn't exactly disgrace himself at centre - if Mauger doesn't punt it out on the full multiple times and get run over we would've won and McAlister would've been hailed for that intercept and sending Rico Gear into the corner. Mortlock didn't exactly carve the world up until Hayman got binned.
