INFINITY WARD NOT MAKING THE NEXT CALL OF DUTY

It was always known that Infinity Ward wouldn't be making this year's Call Of Duty game (most rumours point to a Vietnam or Cold War game by Treyarch). However, it's also being suggested that Infinity Ward won't be doing Modern Warfare 3 either, instead preferring to work on a mysterious new project.
New Activision studio Sledgehammer Games have been fingered as the most likely to work on the sequel instead.

WANTED:pS3 DEAD OR ALIVE

It's all about the rumours today, with the UK Official PlayStation Magazine claiming it has word that beat 'em-up Dead Or Alive 5 is not only in production, but will be multiformat.
The last few games have all been Xbox exclusives but since the departure of series creator Tomonobu Itagaki that may no longer be the case.
There's no suggestion of when the new game might be out though.

GOD OF WAR TRILOGY WELL ON THE WAY

Sony's God Of War Trilogy will arrive on UK shelves on March 20th in the UK.
At least, that's according to UK retailers Gamestation and GAME.
Oddly, that's a Saturday, so don't mark it in the diary just yet - CVG has checked in with Sony.
The pack contains God Of War III, as well as HD remakes of its two home console predecessors and an artbook, soundtrack and more.
The price, however, is less appealing. Sony has confirmed that the £110 tag mentioned by GAME is accurate. Ouch.

ALIENS RPG?

Supposed footage of Sega and Obsidian's now-canned Aliens RPG has appeared on the internet.
Last year the developer confirmed it was no longer working on the game, and will instead be pointing its attention at Alpha Protocol and Fallout: New Vegas.
The 'leaked' footage looks very early and very dark. In fact, if this is the most exciting part of what was developed at Obsidian, we can't say we're surprised it got the chop.

FROM THE CRACKDOWN TEAM BECKONS.....

Realtime Worlds' original Crackdown team is preparing its next game for release in 2011.

That's according to the Linked In CV of one of the company's lead artists, which reveals that the developer's third game will be released for PC next year.

The CV reads:

"Lead Artist
Realtime Worlds
(Privately Held; Computer Games industry)
2005 - Present (5 years )
Working with the double BAFTA award winning team that created Crackdown on a brand new IP due for release in 2011.

Project #3 [2011] (PC)"

There's not much speculation as to what this could be as yet and of course Crackdown 2, now being developed by Realtime's Scottish neighbour, Ruffian, is ruled out.

NEED FOR SPEED:OUT OF THE LAW???

UPDATE: Criterion's confirmed via Twitter that these are fake. "NFS stories on the net today - 100% FAKE," it says.

ORIGINAL STORY: The first concept art images for Burnout developer Criterion's Need for Speed game have seemingly leaked onto the internet.

The images, which include the ***le 'Need for Speed: Out of the Law', show police chases, brightly-coloured motors and yes, motorbikes.
EA's said gamers should be excited for the new instalment because "that Burnout team is probably one of the more online-centric and notably high-quality game developers that we have".
Then again it's Need for Speed, so don't be too surprised if it's rushed to the shops at least a year too early.
We've left a message with EA.

NBA JAM REMAKE CONFIRMED!

A's confirmed its NBA Jam remake for Wii. Full release follows...

EA Canada will revive "the most popular and culturally influential arcade basketball game ever made" with "vintage gameplay", and "all-new features" that deliver a fresh take, it says.
"Featuring the sights and sounds that fans of the franchise will instantly recognize, EA Sports NBA Jam mixes the old school with the new, to deliver a one-of-a-kind sports presentation on the Wii," reads EA's release.
"Featuring gameplay that is true to the original, NBA JAM will have players spinning with ankle breaking moves to the basket and on the way to high-flying, backboard-smashing dunks," it adds.

MADWORLD 2 HEADING TO Wii?

Shigenori Nishikawa, the director of Madworld, has told Official Nintendo Magazine that Platinum Games would be interested in making a sequel to Madworld.

"I think MadWorld was very well received and was acknowledged for its innovative graphical style and gameplay. We would definitely be interested in making a sequel in the future," he said.

Describing the Wii as "a very well-balanced piece of hardware," Nishikawa clearly likes the idea of making more mature games for the console even if that would appear to go against a statement from a Sega development director last week.
Sega of America's Constantine Hantzopoulos said "are we going to do more mature ***les for the Wii? Probably not." Finger's crossed he's wrong.

You can read the full interview with Shigenori Nishikawa in issue 51 of Official Nintendo Magazine which goes on sale on Friday.

NEW KINGDOM HEARTS GAME REVIEWED!

Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu has given out its verdict for Square Enix' highly anticipated action RPG ***le, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, and what do you know, it got the highest PSP score ever.

The cross review, done by four staff members, gave the game a score of 37/40. Here are some of the translated highlights of the review:

Rating: 10
Each character has their own story and their own events that occurred in the ***le. It was a fresh feeling while playing as each character. The graphics and music in this ***le is amazing, really good. The mini games is also excellent. Overall, it's just perfect.

Rating: 9
The growth system is excellent. It's hard to get tired while in battle. It's just an easy operation and there are so many attacks and abilities to chose from. The story for the three characters is satisfactory.

Rating 9:
Firstly, I was quite impressed by the amount of story they had by the view through the eyes of the three main characters. The stages for the characters was nicely done. The command board is great and fun, but it also helps strengthening your commands.

Rating 9:
Between the three different characters, and the commands and styles to chose from, there was an amazing variety to chose from while in battle. When the command you use increases in strength, you can chose your own way to fight, which is very enjoyable. The boss battles were really good, you can have a lot of fun with them through the direction is takes you.

Cheaper to get the blu ray of the first two for 25 pound. Then buy the new one for 50 pound when it's out. The extras aren't worth it. Are they likely to be sitting in pride of place in your lounge two years later? I doubt it.

I can vouch for Zonerunner. He has a whole ROOM dedicated to games. It is mightily impressive.

So, for those that don't know, unity is a popular game engine for developers (usually indie) to create games on. The other day they changed the pricing plan which, tbf, won't hurt people making stuff for fun. Teams that are starting to get somewhere with it though are not at all happy. Many of which are looking to change engines or halted production so they can think.

Unity have been getting a lot of bad press as a result with many big and small developers saying this is wrong. Hopefully, unity will backtrack, but we'll have to wait and see.

They have screwed up majorly here. No one is going to trust them as a partner in the future knowing that they could make unilateral decisions like this in the future, even if they roll it back. Multiple studios have come forward saying they will not work with Unity in the future and others saying they would do so if they weren't so far in the development of their projects.

I think they've effectively killed off a huge chunk of their business/their future. I'm being slightly dramatic, but in the game engine industry they've been incredibly strong and very good at integrating additional functionality for their developers, but they're now going to lose a lot of those developers they've helped grow and develop to either the top game engine, or the emerging engines like Godot. Massive own goal.

Apparently one of the top bods at Unity is ex-EA and absolutely obsessed with micro transactions/monetising everything,
He was in charge when FIFA turned into the lootcrate hellscape the series evolved into and even floated the idea of monetising ammo in online COD when working on that

Also read that there was some dodgy share dumping just before the announcement too - the company dropped 750m in value after they announced it and someone sold 2k worth of shared in the days leading up to it

Indeed, all that is true

I personally wouldn't trust them again after this stunt. Even if they do reverse it. How could you base your entire work flow onto a company that treats it's users so thoughtlessly.
