Who do you think will be the next Ireland coach?

McKenzie would be perfect. We have a game suited quite well to an Aussie style. All our backs have good hands, our back three is extremely powerful and mobile, and our tight five can put in a decent shift. He may well get the Australia job though. Much will depend on this Lions tour.

I'm not sure how excited I'd be if we got McKenzie. In 2010 and 2011 their gameplan was pretty exciting but a huge part of that was Cooper being in excellent for m and people playing off him. I actually think the gameplan he's used these last two years has been fairly boring. There's a lot of the balls to forwards off 9 which we moan about and a hell of a lot of aimless kicking. I'd be ok with him but he wouldn't be in my top 3.

So every one else in the Irish set up was OK with a loss to Canada this upcoming June.....interesting....
 
I for one would like to say that I'd be very much against Les Kiss continuing on in the Irish set up. That's actually nothing against him as a coach, but I feel that this squad needs a fresh start and a clean break. I've witnessed first hand the effect an entirely new management team can have on a side and it's remarkable. Guys lose a lot of their doubts and there's a general confidence boost across the board.

No harm in having a new guy at the helm imo.
 
I just got a call from Ireland asking me if I was interested in the Job, I had to pass it up though because I'm next in line for the Wallabies job.
 
Well we already have NZ coaches in charge of NZ, Aus and Wales, why not have another one? :D

Though then we'd lose our monopoly over the Irish provinces...

Nah - they'd need to find a replacement for Leinster, but I can't see them developing their own coaches. With any luck Jamie Joseph will be picked up.
 
They're outsourcing their coach development to us.

Actually, I'm led to believe its very deliberate that all four provinces have a Kiwi coach.
 
What about Gert Smal?? He's the forwards coach... He was part of Jake White's winning RWC coaching staff, and is now part of the Irish coaching setup...

It would make sense to pick him, and then maybe he'll ask Nick Mallett to join him, who is now just sitting in SA and giviing critisism on the Super Rugby games...

Smal has been very one dimensional with Ireland, we have never performed against a pack that's better than ours under his coaching. I don't think Mallet is wanted after his poor stint with Italy.

I'd hate for Gert Smal to take over as head coach. The Irish pack has regressed badly under his watch and set pieces such as the lineout have become a shambles.

A short(ish)list of Conor O'Shea, Joe Schmidt, Vern Cotter, Wayne Smith, Fabien Galthie and Dave Rennie would do for me. I'm not convinced by Ewen McKenzie who was a bit of a spoofer when he took charge of Stade Francais.

Very few but unless you ask them, you'll never know. Schmidt, O'Shea and Smith possibly. It'll cost a lot to buy out Cotter and Galthie. Rennie may have his eyes on the New Zealand job post 2015. I suspect it's a bit early for O'Shea who'll become a live contender in 2015.

Looking at another sport, when Steve Staunton was mercifully put down, the names most prominently linked with the Irish soccer team job were Bryan Robson, Terry Venebles and Paul Jewell. To be fair to the FAI, they didn't limit themselves to a bunch of failed coaches and plucked out one of the most decorated coaches in history for the job. I hope the IRFU are enlightened and don't just look at second rate, mediocre coaches.
 
Snoop I agree with you regards McKenzie as there was too much talent with that Reds team in pivotal positions to not have chance. Also I think Schmidt knows too much about Irish set up to maybe get in to it althought I think he is best at club level as that is his master class day-to-day coaching but he might want New Zealand role. It seems like not many really want it
