Romania have sacked head coach Hari Dumitras. And in his place they have appointed Welshman Lynn Howells as head coach and offered another Welshman Sean Holley a job as assistant coach. Howells was already involved with Romania in another role, and Holley made an appearance as guest coach for a week this November

I know quite a bit about Sean Holley, but is Howells rated as a good coach? Is he a good appointment for Romania?

Another thing, why are Welsh coaches all of a sudden a very popular export? Nigel Davies, Dai Young, Lyn Jones are all head coaches in the Aviva Premiership, whilst Kingsley Jones, Shane Howarth and Paul Turner also all work in that league as assistants. Whilst internationally, Kingsley Jones and Lyn Howells are the head coaches of Russia and Romania, and they have in their coaching teams Darren Morris and also Sean Holley, and Clive Grffiths works as defence coach with Canada. That's an awful lot of Welsh coaches now coaching outside Wales.

Does this mean Sean Holley'll stop being on Scrum V? he's really starting to get on my wick. Interest appointments. Wasn't Howells attack coach under Henry for Wales? I reckon they should do a decent enough job with Romania at lower levels, but they're not going to be challenging the All Blacks in 2015 by any strech.

yes, Howells was the one who told Henry not to stick with Henson because he wasn't the right player for the team. Henry said thanks for the advice, but duly ignored it.

The news posted on the union's page does not mention Tincu, but my feeling is that he'll stay as an assistant coach (forwards). He has made an impression after joining the staff, he was influential when he was captain, and he has a lot of experience and knowledge from Top 14.

Anyway, the general feeling is that this was a good decision, Dumitras had some issues and he was not very "welcomed" by the fans and rugby community.

The first match with Howells in charge looked good for Bucharest Wolves, a surprising victory against a Top 14 side (Agen). Howells made a few interesting experiments and also introduced a few young and untested players, but all his gambles worked. He also asked the team to play wide, and all three tries were scored by the backs (unusual for a Romanian team really).

It's of course too early for an opinion on his coaching, but I like what I've seen so far, he started with an impressive win.
