USA news & politics

You know what they say about the road to hell...

I think that argument could be made about the right and left of the spectrum currently.

Good example is Womens aid, they absolutely try to help, but they leave a trail of destruction in their wake!
Fair point. Which is why you have to worry about ideologues the most as they think what they're doing is right. Most people do. A lot of these people are no different to the rest of us. I admit that politicians should be held to a higher standard but I also recognise the reality of human history and nature. On top of that I also recognise most people, even politicians, are good, but flawed, people (like the rest of us) and the worst elements of humanity (greed, selfishness, callousness, corruption) are all real things we have to be aware of. All these things are true and is worth considering rather than just saying I dislike all politicians as they're al the same, they're all bad etc etc.

Power ultimately corrupts all to a degree. The issue is when you are corrupt before you even get into power and just see the power as a means to ramp up the corruption.

Depends on the definition of corruption i think. Cops aren't normally allowed to take gifts off people, yet MP's can.

Gifts, debt and so on open up the possibilities of corruption.

It seems very easy to hide behind they did nothing illegal as a defence. Regardless of how moral it is.

I agree, but bit never said they are all the same, I dislike them, which gives me a healthy distrust IMO, and I dont hold any up as either an absolute good or an absolute evil, its also why I am attracted (politically) by intent, so I can massacre people like Corbyn, but also recognise his attempts on the system.

As you've witnessed, I'll contradict claims and sources that criticise politicians i dislike, I just think the truth is far more powerful than a strategy of Orange man bad no matter what (to bring it back to USA)

You are and you aren't. You recognise differences but ultimately say they're all the same as they're all bad and are in on the same grift. There maybe elements of truth in this but it's not really accurate in my opinion

The idea of people seeking power shouldn't be in power is nothing new, Plato wrote about it thousands of years ago. We will never have a perfect system as humans are not perfect, we're incredibly flawed. We're just highly intelligent apes at the end of the day but call me naive, I think most people in politics have good intentions (at the start at least) and do their best.

Except the Tories and Trump.

This. Everyone will do bad things in their life, that doesn't make everyone equally bad.

I mean you keep saying it, but thats not my position.

I dislike all of them, they are not all equal, and I am more than happy to discuss specifics on their merits and failings...

As I said im drawn to consistency, and integrity, and probably niaivity...

But you dislike all of them because they’re politicians otherwise you wouldn’t dislike all of them.

Yes, but that doesnt make them the same...

To put it in perspective, I have no issue with police officers, however I would treat them with the utmost suspicion when they ask me a question, yes sir, no sir, no thank you sir. It doesnt mean theyre all the same, it means they are not to be trusted to act on my best interest, the same way politicians arent there to act on my best interest.

There are similarities, but they arent the same.

Do you dislike all police?

Do you dislike all police?

Not at all, I know a fair few around the city, but I fully understand, that when I am approached by an officer, it offers me no benefit to assist beyond yes sir, no sir, no thank you sir.

Ive witnessed too many of them behave absolutely inexcusably, to believe that their interests align with mine most of the time.

I was given advice by a solicitor a looking time ago, if you didnt call, your a suspect.

So you dislike all politicans but not all police even though the police act in a similar way, or you don’t trust them the same way you don’t trust politicians? Why do you like them and not politicians then? I’m confused, but I’ve probably misunderstood you.
