USA news & politics

I think it's all of those things. I think they know what they're doing with that slogan but I also think, on some of the ones I've seen, it's a bit of a storm in a tea cup.

What I do find funny is that I remember the right in America going mental about a Gillette advert that had the audacity to convey a message of not being misogynistic but now there's no problems with this advert.

Geez I wouldnt compare the 2. American Eagle didnt make an assertion that all non blonde white women were misogynistic sex offenders hahahah

I didnt get my knickers in a twist with Gillette, im a baldy coot who prefers cheap gel and a 6 inch blade to shave my head, but it was icky.

I think its a very apt point you make though, Gillette attacked its user base based on left principles that every man is a danger, American Eagle has promoted blonde white women as beautiful. Its the problem dems have currently, Republicans create, Democrats vilify retrospectively (i have not worded that well, but you know what I mean).

I would liken this sweeney commercial more with the troll a few years ago, of 'its ok to be white'.

It's a bad dad joke. Pretty men and women used to sell things shocker.

Problem is how you view it. Pretty white women has good jeans (genes). Someone was going to take offence.

Fits straight into the freedom of speech arguement and right to cause offence. Probably not a good idea to run the advert but then again the adverts getting more coverage than it should so I'm guessing that was the plan.

No, but it implies that the best genes are genes that give you white skin and blonde hair or whatever the ****.

Did the Gillette ad really convey the message that all men are misogynistic, though? I would have to watch it again but I seem to remember there being men in the advert calling out bad behaviour.

Im not sure its white specific, id argue there would be a ton of black women that would fit that mould, but I think that's where the troll element comes in. White blonde women are not allowed to be the beauty standard any more.

You got me confused now, I'll have to go re watch

Not sure we'd be having this debate if had been Beyonce saying i have good jeans or my jeans are blue.

Doesn't help it's come out Sweeney is a registered Republican. Which tbh has nothing to do with this ad. Plus now Trumps endorsed her she'll be hated or loved by many.
That is true but I think we could be more understanding if it was Beyoncé. It ties in with what @dirty harry was saying about pandering to minorities. I think we can perhaps give a bit of leeway to minorities who, taking the example of Beyoncé and black people, have been enslaved and told for centuries that they are genetically inferior to white people. So perhaps a bit of messaging that goes the other way (even if a bit OTT) is somewhat forgivable. That does not mean to say you should promote minority issues at the expense of white people or whatever but just being aware of the history and trying to balance things out a bit.

The enetire Sweeney things is blown out of proportion and is culture wars bullshit.

She's been used by idiots on the internet as example of women can be hot and flaunt it and why can't all women do it. When plenty of women do.

Sadly the left have decided to jump on this band wagon.

Admittedly I've not really been looking into it (other that wholesome research in the images section of Google) but it seems like it's more a case of the right claiming there is this outrage rather than there actually being outrage.

It's similar to the whole war on Christmas thing, it appears the reaction on the right is in reaction to a largely fictional scenario being attributed to the left.

I'm sure there are some in the left outraged but hardly as much as it's being portrayed.

Personally I don't think much of it.

I've certainly not seen it mentioned at all in my lefty circles.

Genetically inferior? I think the narrative is that Black people had a genetic advantage over white people, science certainly backs that up in explosive sports. I thought the superiority ideals came down to cognition and IQ?

I also dont think slavery is a black thing, its just a politically black thing, there are more slavery today then every before, there have been centuries of white and Asian slavery.

This is interesting though, on the surface it's just a white girl who looks good, and is sexxing up jeans, dig a bit deeper and its highliting a decade or 2 of promoting unhealthiness, with a hint of 'look how how good this blonde haired blue eyed girls genes are'

Ultimately if people stopped getting hysterical about things, like this, like Gillette, and like Bud light, they'd ultimately stop having to market in this way.

Thats Internet 101 though isn't it. The hysteria about this has come from a few wild activists, those 17 videos have been used by the right to create a narrative, the media has picked it up, and 5k more people make videos escelating the entire story. Its how journalism works these days sadly.

Yes genetically inferior. Initially on every level but sure, as time went on racists elevated them to brutish animals with good athleticism but with minds of monkeys so yes, genetically inferior. Thankfully times have moved on and these outdated views are not so common anymore.

If you consider slavery from the most recent and most popular example...

If you consider slavery throughout history and current day, its just exploitation of the poor, or technologically inferior.

Bud light?

Oh I'm...

Google it, there are probably videos made on the whole saga, essentially a new marketing head chose to utilise a growing popular social media influencer who detailed his journey into womanhood by the day. It consisted in the early days of mockery, and him doing things that would be considered a stereotype. Then he transitioned to become a woman fully, and she got a brand deal with Bud Light...

**** hit the fan, Bud light sacked the Marketting lead, took a pretty big hot and went back to marketing it with broncos getting broken and riding into the sunset ye Murica.

I've probably butchered it butnit was a storm in a tea cup kind of thing, celebs were making videos shooting Bud light crates, then caught on video drinking Bud light, you know the usual hahaha

I would say there is good reason to look at the most recent and extreme examples of mass slavery and all that came with it, especially if the context of the conversation revolves around black Americans like it was with the Beyoncé example.
