Wales V Japan

The things is, he's not terrible player but it's just annoying as we have so many other better options. Reffell is literally twice the player, for example.

You'll know better than me but Reffell has always impressed when called upon from what I've seen although I admit I haven't watched him religiously.

I only caught a bit of the Argentina game last weekend but this thread has compelled me to watch the whole game this weekend just to see how bad Mann is. It's almost like he has taken the villain baton from Costelow.

Mann cam ready to be activated.

I pedict him to be betyer at 7, put that engine and agression to better use

Probably for the best mate.

Think how I feel, my son couldn't give a toss about Rugby. The first in our family to not play. He's signed his first contract with a premier league team at age 9 and my dad just shrugs his shoulders and says "he's not playing rugby though"

Tough crowd.

Join the club, my daughter is footy mad, plays for 2 teams, AND its a football party FMFL

Meh. Reffell doesn't do any more than Mann at international level. If anything Mann's a bit more aggressive. Reffell isn't the answer, never was.

Saying that, Mann isn't the answer at the moment either, especially at 7 where we have a few better options. But Mann was far from the biggest issue last week, in fact other than the one breakaway try from the kick off, we kept Argentina's back row relatively quiet. It was in the air and out wide where we really suffered, and neither of those issues can be levelled at Mann.
Reffell offers so much more in my humble opinion. Will pretty much guarantee you 2 jackal turnovers a game, will clear out rucks much more effectively and I would say carries better as well due to being more physically suited to international rugby.

Even the supposed line out option which Tandy says Mann offers (which I accept Reffell most deftly doesn’t) and what does Mann do in first line out last week, drops the easiest of catches right in the bread basket so as I said earlier, what does Mann offer other than running round the place like a Springer Spaniel?

I agree that Beard and Thomas are bigger problems. Yes, Murray under the high ball was poor and you and me agree Rogers should be looked at 15 and it’s poor how he has been handled by Tandy already in my opinion. I could think of 3 other players to bin off before Rogers. In fact I could think of 6 or 7 others.

Ha ha. Our first 2 games of the 6N are England and France. So if we lose today our next 4 games are NZ, SA, England and France. **** me. Talk about today being a must win. I don't care about performance today, we can concentrate on that for the next 4 games we'll inevitably lose. Have to win today. Have to.

You shouldn't be drinking this early in the morning mate. Especially with a 9 year old birthday party to go to.

Mark my words, Japan is primed for a Mann MOTM, they play wide and loose, and if theres one thing we can agree on he gets around the park, hes a far better 7 than 6 tbh.

I would love a whisky right now, Costco has killed me.

MAybe thats what Tandy is targeting?

Argentina and Japan are too important to start working through a new gameplan with 2 weeks prep, and maybe why we are seeing Sheratts game being played. We should havr beaten Japan 2-0 in the summer (if it wasnt for you) with the same game plan and playing staff... so Tandy might see the first 2 games as status quo, and then start his new regime proper with 4 games where we dont stand a chance in hell...

From a coaching POV that makes sense

I feel like we’ve done a bit role reversal today. You need to stop being so optimistic

If Japan win, Wales should be disbanded and absorbed into the other home nations.

The players will pick their nation out of a hat
Northern Wales can go to Ireland; South Wales can go to Australia...

Japanese selection is even more inexperienced than the ones that recently got slaughtered by South Africa and Ireland. No less than 3 debutants on the bench and 5 from the Japan XV side that played Australia A.

The median player has 8 caps. (TBF the selection that lost narrowly to Australia wasn't that much better - median 10 caps)
Japan are not here to win today, they're here to fly under the radar and build depth.

Turns out one of the debutants, Harry Hockings, is a former Australia U20. Tyler Paul is ex-Sharks from when Sharks were in Super Rugby. Only Naoto Saito (Toulouse) doesn't play in the Japanese leagues now.
