A Political Thread pt. 2

150k people to a Tommy Robinson formerly Stephen Yaxley Lennon would have sounded ridiculous 2019...

How do we return him to the gutter he was sniffing around back then?
Looking at 20th century history it seems that right wing movements do well under sustained periods of economic hardship. When people have jobs and are eating well etc you tend to see the support for these groups dwindle.

Which begs the question, do we have good economic times ahead?

Seeing as we haven't had any good economic times since 2007 I would say no but you never know. lol.

So Tommy is more popular than hes ever been, Farage and Reform are leading the polls, the Trump train is at full speed, Europe has some right wing leaders, and those that dont are seeing a rise in right wing opposition...

How do we stem the flow? More restrictions on speech, start calling them super nazis? Have parties exclude right wingers from campaigns, block them from running, and collude to stop them winning?

Or when you can manipulate a threat, real or otherwise. Germany-Jews, Spain/Italy Communists, America-Mexicans or Muslims, Britain-small boats

That's the million dollar question. What compromise would bring the two sides together.

I think it's to far gone. Both sides are to dug in. "They've always been racist" "They don't care about us" plus all the other accusations they like throwing at each other.
Need to start talking about what we agree on and not what we don't. Also need to question why the likes of Elon Musk are backing the far right in the UK and Europe. What's their game in this

You don't. Populists can promise the world and there is nothing that can really be done except either make people's lives great (which won't happen and even then propaganda can convince them it isn't happening). In most cases the thing that defeats populists is unfortunately them getting into power and proving they actually haven't got a clue. It's a dangerous game because, once in power, their priority tends to be corrupting the state to ensure they stay in power.

Try and sort out the economy.

Try and sort out the economy.

The problem is, thats not Starmers or Labours strength, and usually one of the biggest reasons Torys are trusted over them.

Im not sure who said it here last year, but it wouldnt be a surprise if the Torys let Labour have one, as they do every few decades, to ensure power for the next 10 to 20 years lol
