A Political Thread pt. 2

You don't. Populists can promise the world and there is nothing that can really be done except either make people's lives great (which won't happen and even then propaganda can convince them it isn't happening). In most cases the thing that defeats populists is unfortunately them getting into power and proving they actually haven't got a clue. It's a dangerous game because, once in power, their priority tends to be corrupting the state to ensure they stay in power.

I mean, thats a risky game, im not sure im going to vote Reform for this strategy...

As said above, we could be ushering in a new generation of right wing, and sadly further right wing rule, than we have in forever, it feels like the culture war has been decided, and now we might get the result.

The problem is, thats not Starmers or Labours strength, and usually one of the biggest reasons Torys are trusted over them.

Im not sure who said it here last year, but it wouldnt be a surprise if the Torys let Labour have one, as they do every few decades, to ensure power for the next 10 to 20 years lol
Don't think it's anyone's strength really.

Starmer, for all his flaws, is at least a serious person and isn't an authoritarian wannabe dictator trying to insight more violence, so there is that at least.

I mean... his freedom house score is going to have taken a hit in the free speech and due process categories, not to mention the human rights abuses of trying to deport asylum seekers without giving them a chance to appeal properly, i mean the US state department report was pretty scathing, but I get what your saying, it could be a lot worse, we could get a Trump or Treudau type megalomaniac hahaha

I agree. It’s almost like they’re not all the same.

I'm not saying there aren't issues with immigration that couldn't be improved, but what I find ridiculous is how it's portrayed as this huge issue that causes most of, if not all of the UK's problems.

No doubt Labour deserve criticism but its incredible how many people seem to have forgotten the damage done over 15 years by the Tories which will take years to fix. Crumbling schools, economic stagnation and NHS waiting lists aren't down to criminal gangs or young men from Eritrea staying in a Holiday inn.

If the boats/hotels/migrant issues were solved tomorrow I firmly believe that Reform and Yaxley Lennon would be talking about Pakistani gangs raping young white girls knowing it'll extend to wider Islamic and Asian hate regardless of nationality. Most of us know what they and their supporters are - they are just using patriotism, Christianity and protecting women & children as a ruse.

I dont think anyone forgot Torys damage, I mean they pretty much collapsed at the last election because of it, id also say Labour have made more strides to quell the problem in the last year than Torys did (even if unsuccessful so far).

I cant remember who said it, but illegal entries arent going to be solved without a level of cruelty, there are legitimate concerns of nearly 1 million net migration, and 50k illegal migration mostly young men entering the country, and mostly with archaic attitudes toward women and the rule of law with nothing to lose.

Theres also an argument to be made that the increase in number does negatively effect house pricing, and NHS waiting lists for everyone, however I agree that this isn't the greatest issue of our time, they've been conflated to convince people there is an Islamic army of 750k young men entering the UK assaulting women and children daily, and if it stop I agree it would absolutely turn to Muslims who are already here!

I think part of the problem is the counterpoint to this conflation isnt calling every person coming in doctors and engineers, making them out to be refugees, or holding one of 5k stand up to racism signs and screaming nazi across the road, its common sense discussion about how to improve our refugee programme, while simultaneously effecting change on the immigration issue, and maybe a bit of transparency in discussing culture change, and implementing empathetic integration education.

This is what birthers with crap about Obama has bought the world to. Trump was a lead proponent of that ****.

Im still in shock this is a story, Macrons a woman, Macrons wife is a man, I mean its wild that a world leader would indulge in the Streisand effect in 2025 because a ******** youtuber said so...

Obama dealt with the dumb birther stupid perfectly, laughed at those making the claim, showed his birth certificate, laughed harder at the idiots, I dont remmeber him sueing everyone who made the claim, he didnt did he?

God I miss the Obama times, even with all the indiscriminate killing of civilians, it was a better time.

Hey, at least those were mostly foreign civilians. Give Trump a few months and he'll be wiping out swathes of his own people in the civil war it appears he wants so badly.

I'm not pro royal or pro Trump but fair play to Camilla and Melania for coordinating and wearing Ukraine's colours in a show of support.

Just another thing that reminds me of better times. I used to hate the royals (still do in terms of what they represent and how their existence as royals is at odds with democracy)

But tell me Fararge wins the next election and I’ll happily fight for King Charles to be our lifelong ruler. Rule Britannia.

Mate if AWJ started his own political party and had Jiffy as his campaign manager I'd 1000% vote for them before I'd stick an X next to Farage or Reform.

Will Robinson and Farage get in it together? Farage has in the past kept tiny Tommy at arms length but I think he will only add to his cause if he brings him in.

I think it suits Farage to let Robinson do his thing because it makes him look less extreme. Robinson can do Farage's dirty work by saying things that would probably be a step too far for Farage. Robinson is basically a thug's thug with a microphone and sponsorship from the weird billionaire junky across the pond.

Forget about Jiffy “numbers” Davies. Get Biggar involved and Mike Philips as Social Media and culture minister and we’ll have some good times ahead of us.

Yes, one of Nigel’s many problems has been the fact that people don’t take him seriously. That could change and as you rightly point out, is helped by Tommy Robinson just existing. It makes Fararge seem like a credible option.

Robinson is known far-right agitator by the casual/instituional racists (ie the ones who don't admit their view is racist until you explain it excruciating detail).
