4-12-2010: Barbarians vs. Springboks @ Twickenham

I know and I completely agree but if you call up a player for a tour, you should give hime gametime. McLeod deserves a chance because of the amazing season he had with the Sharks. You do agree McLeod is better than Januarie right? (Every scrumhalf is better than Januarie)

I see your point and yes EVERY scrumhalf in SA is better than januarie.
I couldnt believe the stormers gave him a contract.

Interesting that a prop got called up to the replacements bench.
Could the Boks be trying another tight game?

P.S. I think Januarie is SA's 5th best scrum-half

Bite me

in other words you also dont think he should play for the boks.

Well Tank, of course me and LordHope are kiddin' around a bit but he seriously is not good enough to compete with Pienaar, Hougaard and du Preez. He does perform better under pressure than Duvenhage who is still young. At this stage not a bad pick for the Stormers.

PdV saying that the Springboks won't be 'moving away from our strengths' and adopting a running game plan:

http://www.sarugby.com/2010/12/02/boks-settle-on-game-plan/

..then he goes and says something about embracing the spirit of Barabarian rugby..

and the team selected certainly implies that the Boks are going to try and keep posession and run with the ball: Hougaard and McCleod both more suited to attacking, running rugby, so is Kanko and our FH and FB in Jantjies & Lambie.

That and the fact that we have no specialist fetcher with Smith and Alberts both being more ball carriers than ball stealers implies we are going to adopt the Sharks game of keeping posession and going through the phases and not worrying about stealing the ball since the idea is that the opposition will never have it in the first place.

I think we may actually take this one against an impressive Baabaas line-up if we can starve that backline of ball since I think we have their number up front. Patience and execution will be key, though and this is a very inexperienced Bok squad..

Shaping up for a good match up and it will be interesting to see if any developments in Bok gameplan come from it.

Januarie is fine for heavier fields but SH fields in the summer..

He is still a ways behind FdP, Hougaard, Pienaar & Vermaak and probably also McLeod & Duvenhage IMO.

You might be right about Duvenhage and I prefer him over Januarie any day but he was a real disappointment in the Currie Cup final (good for me haha) and that is when I noticed he still lacks experience. McLeod is a scrumhalf who shows his teeth, is not afraid to tackle and plays without fear where Duvenhage holds back too much. In the long run, Duvenhage will definitely become a better SH than Januarie.

yes i see your point. i just think the stormers could have given the contract to younger scrumhalf with more potential. januarie is very much over and done with, he should retire.

imagine if we could have gotten francois hougaard in the stormers who actually went to school in western cape. damn our selectors were idiots to overlook him.

Hougaard is a Paarl boy and got into WP academy and got snapped up by the Bulls because WP kept him on a leash. Now (2011 season) Conrad Hoffman has defected to the Sharks from where he will probably be giving the WP a torrid time in the not too distant future.

It's the same old story with WP not giving our youngsters a chance. At least we're not as bad off as the Freestate but there the problem is funding where ours is a lack of belief in our youngsters.

*PS, Ezequiel, could you please change your avatar? - it puts me in a black mood everytime I see it.

What bothers you? The run of Lambie? The way he hands off Burger or the try all together? ;)

I will see if I can replace it with the Mvovo try later this month.

With Hoffmann joining the Sharks we have a lot of options. McLeod having the edge over Kockott, it looks like Rory might move back to the Lions. I wouldn't be surprised if he does. We have a strong backline for the coming Super15 with JL Potgieter and Meyer Bosman also coming to Durban. Hoffmann is a versatile back but he will most likely be used as scrumhalf since the other positions are as good as filled already with Ludik (FB), Terblanche, Bosman, Jacobs, Lambie (Centre), JL Potgieter, Lambie, Meyer (FH) and McLeod, Hoffmann (SH)

Last I heard the Sharks are still negotiating with Kockett, and indeed I saw him at training on the training fields

I know but I don't expect him to agree to a place on the bench at most with McLeod and Hoffmann in front of him.

I never thought Alberts would come here, with Daniel, Deysel, Botes and Kanko in the pecking order
Rugby is a funny game, but I agree that it will probably be more likely that Kockett will leave.
If he really wants game time, the Cheetahs is the only union he is pretty much assured of it

Hi, Cassie and welcome.

Hopelik sal Bokkie volgende jaar hierdie tyd weer breebors kan staan. Sou net wou sien dat hy leer hoe om die bal aan te gee..
