Antisocial, societal issues thread

Need to ban dogs I reckon. Or at least put a limit on how may a family can own. 1 per family I say.

More dangerous than guns, you know
I tragically had a family member killed by a dog when he was just 2 years old bless him and I still find myself not dealing with it very well when I think about him and it happened a couple of years ago now.

I love dogs, though, just hate people that can't control them. Mind you, the same can be said for human parents.

Absolutely same here: love dogs, but hate people who can't control their dogs. Also, I still have a bit of fear for dogs (when I was a child,a dog jumped at me and bit me)

Some big dog made a charge for my 6 year old daughter the other day. I wasn't there but my wife smothered my daughter to protect her and the dog stopped. I'm glad I wasn't there as I might've actually attacked the owner who, to be fair to him, was very apologetic but this dog was like a horse my wife said, my daughter would've been dead or horribly disfigured in half a second. I hope that owner makes some serious changes to how and where he walks that dog.

I am weary of staffies. Got bitten by one, not on an lead, and it drew blood and all the owners could say was "sorry" and carried on.

Yeah, I used to love Staffies (living in Staffordshire n all) but these days I avoid - as mentioned above the issue is dog owners rather than the dogs themselves,
Grew up knowing some lovely Staffies but the ones I see these days barely under control on a big chain leash while lunging at people walking past - no chance
If I see any sort of bull terrier when I'm walking my dog I just cross the road/get out of the way, it's not worth taking the risk whether they've been properly trained/socialised or not

Yeah, it's dickhead owners, rather than a Staffie trait

My dog has more issues with dogs that have small dog syndrome. Looks at them as if to say "Why's that squirrel barking at me".

Smaller dogs - especially ratters are far more likely to be dangerous than bigger dogs - they're just less damaging (but don't underestimate the damage they can do) and less "scary" to humans.
If a collie-sized dog had the attitude of a chihuahua it would be instantly on the banned breed list - let alone anything bigger with that attitude.

But humans are idiots

Also true! I got bitten by a small dachshund when I was a child (and must say I don't like dachshunds since then)

Mine is a border collie originally from Wales. Way to bright for his own good.

He's currently at home investing in crypto and offering house buying advice for 90% of Cardiff.

In reality he'll be at home living the dream on the sofa

A contrarian collie that barks in disagreement at your commands? Surprised you haven't trained it to collect litter in the park if it's bright.

If you choose to put yourself out in the public arena, you have to be prepared to take the consequences, not just when it suits you

Btw, I don't remotely condone the online behaviour, unless it's English refs 😎😎

Got to agree... live by the sword, make millions and build a brand, don't cry when the sword calls you a dick once in a while.

Realistically, the only way to stop abuse is to close social media, or at least make a start by closing it in Russia, China and India, the 3 countries identified as the most abusive and racist online in the context of European football.

I don't agree. With stuff like politics then fair enough but sports people definitely don't put themselves out there to be abused. It's one thing having a hostile away game but getting a constant barrage of abuse personally at all times is not acceptable.

There's already been a drastic drop in the number of people who want to be referees due to the extreme levels of abuse. Do we want to say we let a sport die because we were all a bunch of ***** who couldn't treat people like people?

Most people go into sport to follow a dream and turn a hobby into a reality. This abuse is seeping in at lower levels too. If we normalise it at higher levels, why not at lower levels? Why not allow the abuse of 16 and 18 year olds by supposedly grown adults?

That's the shittiest take I've ever heard. We all get wound up in the stands/on the sofa but what, death threats are OK? Their families are fair game?

This carries on then the game is only going further into the sewer. No refs - no game
