This is my first year as a serious rugby fan and I've grown very fond of the sport. You're probably familiar with MLR, but if not they're finishing up the inaugural season. I'm a San Diego Legion fan and they're one of the four sides that will be playing in the playoffs today in Glendale, Colorado (a Denver suburb). *And the MLR championship match will be held on July 7th in San Diego and broadcast on CBS SportsNetwork. Thank you and best wishes to all rugby fans around the globe.

No worries, It's hidden away a bit down in the tier 2 section.

Having games broadcast for free online has definitely gotten people interested in the league

The Ontario Arrows from Canada have also joined Major League Rugby and will begin play next season. So the league has expanded to at least 10 teams for 2019. And they might add more before then. It's good to know that the inaugural season was a success and the league is expanding.

There's an interview with Dean Howes on Rugby Wrap Up:

He says the league growing to have teams in the major media markets in the US for the first few years is important before stabilizing and taking stock of where they are. Boston was also mentioned as an expansion candidate in addition to those named above. You'd assume Chicago is also of interest to the growing league.

This is awesome! I am just now getting into rugby and hate that I missed this past season. How were games televised?

Washington, DC to join MLR "no later than 2020". Hopefully they'll hit the pitch in 2019, but if not 2020 isn't too far off. They're having a contest to name the team now.

Cathal Marsh looks set to sign for RUNY. He was released by Leinster at the end of last season. Very talented 10 who didn't really kick on and was passed by Joey Carbery, Ross Byrne and Ciarán Frawley on the depth chart.

Hells, your union leaves no stone unturned in trying to tap the US market but I'll be damned if I can work out how it will ever bear fruit.
I've no idea either. Perhaps they want to get the next tier of players used to a mini tour setting. Perhaps it's trying to position themselves in the market in case the MLR doesn't take off. Not that these games will get any local media traction.

I didn't see this elsewhere so forgive me if I'm posting old news. Toronto Arrows and Rugby United New York (RUNY) are expansion teams going into next season. Season consists of 16 games followed by playoffs. Regular season runs from late January to early June.

Atlanta, Washington DC and Boston (New England Free Jacks) will join the league in 2020. Hopefully the league has enough talent to justify having 12 teams and the standard holds up.

Old Glory DC, one of the three new teams in Major League Rugby for 2020 will play the US Naval Academy on January 18th.
